CITI BANK

Ø WHAT – Citi Bank is the consumer division of Citigroup Financial Service provider which aims to
provide innovative and simple financial solutions to the consumers across the world.
o Headquarters is in New York

Ø TELL ME MORE – Citibank was founded in 1812 as the City Bank of New York, and later
became First National City Bank of New York.
STANDARD CHARTERED BANK

Ø WHAT – It is a British multinational banking and financial services company. Standard


Chartered came into existence after the merger of Standard Bank and Chartered Bank in 1969.
o Headquarters – London, UK

Ø WHY – In 1853, James Wilson set up the Chartered Bank of India, Australia, and China. The
branches were opened in Mumbai, Kolkata, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
o John Paterson formed the Standard Bank of British South Africa in 1862 in Port
Elizabeth. Later, the bank network spread across Africa.
o Later in 1969, Standard Bank and Chartered Bank were merged to form the “Standard
Chartered Bank”.

has been operating in India since 1858.

AMERICAN EXPRESS BANK

Ø WHAT – American Express Company, also known as Amex, is an American multinational


financial services corporation. It primarily issues credit cards, processes payments, and provides
travel-related services worldwide.
o Headquarter – New York

charge card issuer, the world’s largest travel company and the world’s largest travellers’ cheques
issuer.

investment products.
o It operates in 175 countries with 2,300 offices across the world.
o It is the parent organisation of three major companies: American Express Travel Related
Services (TRS), The American Express Bank Ltd. (AEBL) and American Express Financial
Advisors.
o In India, the company offers a full range of travel, financial and network service
products. American Express established its first office in India in 1921 in Kolkata.
o The American Express Bank Ltd. in India: The bank commenced its operations in India in
1921 to provide financial and commercial banking services to leading corporations in
India.
o American Express Travel Related Services in India: The company offers cards, consumer
financial services, travel services and travellers' cheques to individual and corporate
customers. It has the largest travel network across the country.
o American Express (India) Private Ltd. Finance Centre- East: It was set up in 1994. It is a
100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) which consolidates accounting and financial processes
of the American Express Company’s businesses around the world.
§ Located in New Delhi, this is American Express’ first venture into shared
servicing, and is one of three such centres in the world.
o American Express Global Service Centre: Established to provide fraud and risk modelling
and financial processing to American Express customers worldwide.
§ The Global Service Centre Asia was first opened in 2001 and it is headquartered
in India.
HSBC BANK

Ø WHAT – HSBC was born in March 1865 in Hong Kong to fulfil financial needs of trade between
Europe and Asia. It has one simple motto – a local bank serving international needs.
o Headquarters – London, UK

organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories.
o The bank helps people manage their money, encourage savings and investments, and helps
in economic growth.
o It trades and invests in overseas markets. It has an international network to connect its

ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND

Ø WHAT – The RBS Group is a large international banking and financial services company. It

Asia. It aims to provide banking services for individuals, businesses and institutions.
o Headquarters – Edinburgh

o Today's Deutsche Bank AG was established on May 2, 1957 by the (re-) merger of three
regional institutions which had been demerged from Deutsche Bank in 1952.
o Deutsche Bank established its first branch in India in 1980 and currently operates branches
in 16 cities as on December 31, 2019.

DBS Bank

Ø WHAT – DBS (earlier known as Development Bank of Singapore) was established in 1968 with
Hon Sui Sen as its first chairman and president. It is a multinational banking and financial services
corporation.
o Headquarters – Singapore

Ø TELL ME MORE – In 2018, DBS is recognised by Euromoney as the World’s Best Digital
Bank. DBS was also named as the World’s Best Bank for SMEs for the first time by Euromoney.
o DBS has been accorded the “Safest Bank in Asia” award by Global Finance for ten
consecutive years from 2009 to 2018.
o DBS set up a representative office in India in 1994 and opened its first bank branch in 1995.
It currently operates in 19 cities in India.
o In 2016, DBS India launched Digibank, a ground-breaking mobile app in the country. The
bank is providing data-driven lending solutions for small and medium enterprises.

BNP PARIBAS BANK


Ø WHAT – BNP Paribas Group is a leading European bank with a strong global footprint across 71
markets. Asia Pacific is a key strategic region for BNP Paribas and it continues to develop its
franchise in the region.
o Headquarters – Paris, France
