Quarter 3 – Module 6: Tools and Instruments Used in Sketching, Shading, and
Outlining.

Before we study further, let’s recall our previous lesson about
enhances bamboo, wood, metal and other products through sketching,
shading, and outlining.

LESSON
Tools and Instruments Used in Sketching, Shading, and
Outlining.
Look at the pictures inside the box, which tools and instruments
you used already?
1. Drawing Table
Is made of wood, with a measurement of 16 x 22 inches or 18 x 24
inches. It also has a smooth surface, and all the sides or working edges
are straight.
2. T - Square
Is made of wood or plastic and consists of two parts joined
together in a 90° angle, the head and the blade. It is used to draw a
horizontal line and a guide for triangle and other drawing instruments.
3. Triangle
Is used to draw vertical and oblique lines. There are two common
types of triangles. First, the 45° triangle has one 90° angle and two 45°
angle. The second is a 30° x 60° triangle which has one 30°angle,
60°angle, and 90° angle.
4. Protractor
Is used to get measurements that cannot be made by triangles. It
has a 180° angle that can be measure from right to left. It has a scale on
the outer side, starting from 0° to 180° from right to left. The inner scale
begins at 0° to 180° from left to right.
5. Compass
Is used to make circles and arcs. Both end, are pointed, the other
one has a pencil at the end.
6. Divider
A tool used to transfer lines and divide exact measurements. It is
not like a compass that has a pencil. The end of this instrument is
pointed like a needle.
7. Pencils
Different kinds of these tools are used in drawing. HB pencil is the
most common to use in letterings and drawings. It has different types like
6B, 5B, 3B, 2B, B, HB, H, 1H, 2H, 3H, 4H, 6H, and 9H.
