EC202(Midterm Problem.set)

The document discusses calculations related to magnetic circuits, including the determination of current required to produce specific magnetic fluxes in different scenarios, such as with and without air-gaps. It also covers the analysis of a magnetic circuit with a cast steel core and the calculation of self and mutual inductances between coils. Additionally, the document includes references to transformers and polyphase systems, though details on those topics are less developed.

A wrought iron bar 30 cm long and 2 cm in diameter is bent into a
circular shape as shown in Figure. It is then wound with 600 turns of
wire. Calculate the current required to produce a flux of 0.5 mWb in
the magnetic circuit in the following cases: (i) no air-gap; (ii) with an
air-gap of 1 mm; r (iron) = 4000 (assumed constant); and (iii) with an
air-gap of 1 mm; assume the following data for the magnetization of
iron:
The magnetic circuit of Figure has cast steel core. The cross-sectional
area of the central limb is 800 mm and that of each outer limb is 600
mm 2 . Calculate the exciting current needed to set up a flux of
0.8 mWb in the air gap. Neglect magnetic leakage and fringing.
The magnetic circuit of Figure has a cast steel core whose dimensions
are given below:

Determine the exciting coil mmf required to establish an air-gap flux

of 0.75 m Wb.
= 500 A T/m

= 1.04 T
= 200 AT/m (for cast steel for B = 0.3 T)
For the magnetic circuit of Figure find the self and mutual
inductances between the two coils. Core permeability = 1600.
Two coils are wound on a toroidal core as shown in the fig. the core is
made of silicon sheet steel and it has a square cross section.
The coil currents are 11=0.28A and I2=0.56A
a) Determine the flux density at the mean radius of the core
b) Assuming constant flux density (same as at the mean radius) over
the cross section of the core, determine the flux in the core.
c) Determine the relative permeability.

Reflection to the secondary or primary side cannot be done with this
circuit: there is direct connection between the primary and secondary
sides due to the 30- resistor. We apply mesh analysis.
