The document outlines the development of an Automatic Water Level Control System using Arduino and ultrasonic sensors to address water scarcity and wastage. The system monitors water levels in a sump tank, preventing the pump from running dry and generating alerts for low levels or sensor faults. The project aims to provide a reliable, cost-effective solution for water management, reducing labor and wastage while ensuring the longevity of pumping equipment.

PROJECT TITLE:-Automatic Water Level Control System using Arduino and

ultrasonic sensor

1. Abstract:

Water scarcity is one of the major problems facing major cities of the world and
wastage during transmission has been identified as a major culprit, this is one of the
motivations for this research, to deploy computing techniques in creating a barrier to
wastage in order to not only provide more financial gains and energy saving, but also
help the environment and water cycle which in turn ensures that we save water for our
future.

The system also monitoring the level of water in the sump tank (source tank). If the level
inside the sump tank is low, the pump will not be switched ON and this protects the
motor from dry running. A beep sound is generated when the level in the sump tank is
low or if there is any fault with the sensors

2. Introduction

In everyday life, there must be some physical elements that need to be controlled in
order for them to perform their expected behaviors. A control system therefore can be
defined as a device, or set of devices, that manages commands, directs or regulates the
behavior of other device or system. Consequently, automatic controlling involves
designing a control system to function with minimal or no human interference. Intelligent
systems are being used in a wide range of fields including from medical sciences to
financial sciences, education, law, and so on.

3. Background of the study

This project is carried out so as to provide a means of reducing stress involved in fetching
water, wastage of water and flooding which may result from overfilling of the tank and
eventually reduce to minimum, if not eliminating damages to the pumping machine

1
4. General Objective

The general objective of the project is to develop and construct automatic water level
control system by predetermined time periods in flexible, reliable, and cost-effective

B. Specific Objective

i. To transfer technology
ii. to avoiding waste water and time
iii. to create job opportunity for MSE

5. Project Description

The aim of this project is to develop prototype of water level control that can be viewed
as a part of control system of reservoirs or reservoir. The circuit diagram of the water
level controller using Arduino is shown below. Conductive method is used to measure the
level.

6. Statement of the Problem:

Appearing on the market in the early 90’s, the first electric water controller helped
industry professionals track the water levels in boilers, irrigation lakes, cooling towers,
and waste water tanks reliably and accurately. . Though more accurate, the new
controllers did not provide easy verify operations nor did the units lack the intuitive user
interface to enable trouble shooting when problems began.

When a problem arose, there was no built in function to help identify the source of the
failure/malfunction. One of the main reasons that the electric water controller showed
poor durability would fall on the high 500-650 volts used in a wet environment.

There are many advantages of water level controls, also known also water level
indicators, including:

 Power Saver
 Money Saver
 Automatic
 Water Maximization
 Reliable Electronic Design
 New Control Minimize Fouling & Deterioration

7. Scope of the Study

The project is design to provide a means of storing water for the benefit of mankind and
industrial purpose. The control section is used for the control of water level to various
sizes of tank or reservoir. The minimum and maximum level of water in the tank is
determined by the probe.

8. Significance of Study

The significance of the study is to design a means of mankind water available in the
storage tank for future uses such as domestic, industrial, Agricultural and economic
purposes, which are beneficial to mankind. It is also reducelabour coil, wastage of water
resulting from filling of the tank, which can eventually leads to flooding. Consequently it
enables long life span of the pumping machine.

9. Methodology

The methodology of our project to design the circuit and its code, construct the circuit of
the project and test the project.

9.1 Procedures of the project

Market analysis-order the plan

Select raw materials and accessories
Prepare the components as per the job specification

Circuit design: Prepare working circuit diagram and system circuit.

Assemble the parts according to the drawing
Assemble in the PCB board
Testing and commissioning
Assure quality standards
Prepare the Show for demonstration and Last to report with paper of the project

10. Limitation of the Project

The major limitation of the study is that it cannot be used when there is no power supply
from Power Holding unless an alternative means of power supply is designed to power
the project.
