lives. They wanted to live a life that would make a difference. Everyone said that at some point in their life, they felt called by God to serve. Many heard this invitation when they spent time in quiet prayer and reflection. Others heard the call through other people who encouraged them to think about entering the seminary and pursue becoming an ordained minister. Someone at the table honestly admitted that they needed Jesus help when they struggled with moments of doubt and uncertainty. He admitted asking himself the brutal question, Do I really believe the stuff I am actually preaching to my people on Sunday? At one point he wasnt sure. But through the grace of God, he found his faith again. Lent is a time for us to listen carefully to those calling out to us, even God. There is a good chance that we will hear Gods voice when we take time to pray and allow God to speak to our hearts. In todays gospel, this happens high on top of the mountain when Jesus is transformed in front of his apostles. Peter, James and John actually hear Gods voice from the cloud that says, This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him. When they got down from the mountain, they needed to stick close to Jesus so that they could watch and learn from him. I hope this Lent you will be able to find some quality time and a sacred place to have a conversation with God. Our church opens at 6:00 AM before daily Mass at 7:00 AM. Many people will stop in to say a prayer as they begin their day or before going in to work. This Lent, think about how God might be calling you to a particular ministry in our parish. How can you share your gifts, talents and skills to foster the spiritual life and care of our brothers and sisters? Perhaps bring to prayer this Lent the two pages from todays bulletin that list the major areas in our parish where we need the most help. Your simple Yes to help might lead you to great blessings in your life. Please give it some serious thought. Is God calling you to something more in your life right here at St. Cyrils? Fr. Mike is Here this Week Remember that this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings our Tri-Parish Lenten Mission will take place at St. Patrick Parish, just down the hill. We welcome Fr. Mike Foley who is our guest Lenten speaker. Fr. Mike is currently the Associate Pastor at St. Michaels Parish in Orland Park. The complete details for the Lenten Mission are listed in todays bulletin.

On Tuesday afternoon I sat at a table surrounded by several other ministers who currently serve at our neighboring Christian churches here in town. Our church steeples together outline the religious skyline of our Village of Faith. After pausing to share in a moment of ecumenical grace, we woofed down a creamy batch of tuna casserole that was prepared by one of the kind ladies from St. Matthews Lutheran Church. There are about a dozen Lemont clergy that meet once a month to share the good news of whats going on in the life of our faith community. Fr. Brian Ardagh from St. Alphonsus, and Fr. Kurt Boras from St. Patrick, are my Catholic wing men at these meetings. There is a strong mutual support for one another. Our fellowship is evident by our ability to respectfully tease each other with a Christian Spirit. Best of all, even though these folks are not my registered parishioners, when I am in their presence, I feel a deep-seated concern from them as to how I am doing in serving Gods people through the Catholic faith. Tuesdays lunch was a great lunch. Why? Well, we took the time for everyone at the table to share a little bit of their background and personal journey of faith. The questions posed to those present were, How did you end up working for the church? How did you encounter Jesus along the way? As I listened to the various testimonies, I was impressed by the openness and real sincerity of people. Even though there were about a half a dozen different faiths represented, we were in many ways united by the similar ways our lives unfolded. Many ministers said that they were drawn to church work because of someone who had made a strong spiritual impression upon their lives. Role models came by the way of priests in parishes, teachers in the seminary, pastors of small congregations and those dedicated to helping the poor and needy. Practically everyone said that their previous jobs were truly unfulfilling. One person said that shortly after they got out of college they soon realized that they were not satisfied with just pushing numbers for a living. They were looking for a line of work that would be more rewarding. They knew they needed to do more with their

Try to set aside the time to at least hear Fr. Mike speak on one of the three nights this week. Consider it a spiritual gift to yourself this Lent. (Besides, there probably is nothing good on TV anyway now that the Oscars are over.) A night at our Tri-Parish Lenten Mission will do a lot more for us than trying to give up chocolate. It May Take 17 Times, Maybe More? Those who study human behavior say that it takes about 17 attempts for a person to change a simple habit. On Ash Wednesday I made two Lenten resolutions. One I have kept, the other I have broken several times already. The second resolution disappeared faster than the black ashes on my forehead. I think this is why Lent stretches out over 40 days. We need the time to change. True conversion doesn't happen overnight. The good news is that Jesus is always there to help us when we give it another shot. The bible is filled with stories of people who got a second chance. May we use this time well. Dear Parishioners, Your Pastor, Fr. Larry Lisowski, is participating in the Periodic Review of Priestly Ministry as required by the Archdiocese of Chicago Policy. Each priest is reviewed approximately every five years. Fr. Larry Lisowski, the parish staff and parish leaders have generated lists of parishioners who will be asked to participate in the process by completing a Survey Form. If you do not receive a Form and would like to participate, please contact Kathleen Leggas, Director of the Office of Ministerial Evaluation, to request a Survey be sent to you. You may call 312-534-5265 or make a request by e-mail to ome@archchicago.org. Electronic forms are not currently available however. Information that you provide, including written comments, will be treated confidentially. At the completion of the Review Process, an overview of the results will be published in the Parish Bulletin. This is an important opportunity for you to express gratitude for all that he has accomplished and to offer helpful suggestions regarding directions for future ministry for him and your parish. Thank you for your willingness to provide constructive comments regarding what you value and what you identify as areas for growth. Kathleen Leggas, Director Office of Ministerial Evaluation

Communion Prep Mass On Sunday, February 26th our second graders from the parish school and religious education program came together for a Prep Mass. At this Mass Fr. Larry and Mrs. Mira explained the first part of the Mass which is called Liturgy of the Eucharist to the children and their families. At different points during this part of the Mass they stopped and explained why we do what we do at Mass. The children also received wooden crosses that they will wear to church each week until they receive First Communion. The children will come forward in the communion line and receive a blessing. Please pray for these children as they prepare to receive Jesus for the first time! Next Prep Mass for the second graders and their families is on Sunday, March 11th at 3:30 PM in the church!

This coming Thursday, March 8th is our schools first Academic Fair. On display will be examples of the various Inquiry Based Units our teachers and students have been working on this year. Please join us this coming Friday, March 9th at 2:00 PM in church as our students in grades 1-8 pray the Stations of the Cross. On Friday, February 24th our Board of Specified Jurisdiction hosted the first of our two Lenten Fish Fry's. It was a great opportunity for the entire parish to join together, enjoy each others company, and have a great meal I congratulate all of the people who worked hard to serve all of the meals as quickly as possible! Our next fish fry will take place on March 16th. Please mark your calendar and plan on joining us that night. We have started our third trimester. Thank You to the 642 families who have supported our campaign with their pledge.
Thank you for your support this year to our Capital Campaign. We have completed the first phase of our project with the renovation and construction of much needed additional washrooms in the back of Church and Sacristy area. As well, two new Reconciliation rooms were constructed to provide a more reverent and sacred space to celebrate the Sacrament. Planning is now taking place to embark on the much larger second phase to begin in June of 2012 with the painting of the interior of our church. The good news is we are over halfway to our overall goal. The success of our campaign will enable our parish to continue our ministry and enhance our worship and prayer. Working together, we can met the needs of our parish community both today and for many years to come. Let us in faith, share our gift and care for our home.

Loving God, We thank You for the generous blessings You have bestowed upon Our Faith. May Your Spirit give us the vision to look into our hearts for inspiration, and in your honor, respond with our sacrifice, Our Gift. Help us as we care for this sacred and holy place, Our Home, where we come to offer you glory, praise and honor. Amen. Our Faith, Our Gift, Our Home Capital Campaign

Tri-Parish Lenten Mission
March 5th 7th, 2012 7:30 P.M. Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday St. Patrick Church Carry us, Lord, on our Journey to Redemption
Our Tri-Parish Lenten Mission, led by Fr. Michael Foley from St. Michael Parish in Orland Park is an opportunity for you to deepen your faith. It is aimed at a renewal and a deeper commitment to Jesus and His mission in your life and is a blessing for all who attend. Here is each evenings theme: Monday, March 5th: Explore what we each carry on our journey through life and who carries us. Tuesday, March 6th: Discover the burdens and sins we carry and how to unburden yourself (Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available). Wednesday, March 7th: Explore the Lenten journey and how God unites us with Himself and each other during our spiritual journeys. In a world that seems to move too quickly, if you slow down enough to hear Gods message and participate in a Mission, we believe youll feel an immediate deepening of your relationship with God and your experience of the Risen Christ in your life.

The PADS season is in full swing!

March 4, 2012

PADS is an acronym for Public Action to Deliver Shelter. It is a series of facilities, mostly churches, which serve as a safe haven one night per week for homeless men, women and children. St. Lukes Orthodox Church is the Monday night shelter we support. The churches in Lemont cover all the needs on the first Monday of each month, October through April. But St. Lukes is finding it more and more difficult to find people to cover the other Mondays during the month. The shift times are: 7-11PM, 11PM-3AM, 3-7AM and 5-8AM. The work is simple and it is wonderful to develop relationships with the guests. If you could give only one shift from now until the end of April, it would be a big help to St. Lukes. Please seriously consider this. If you are interested, call me at 630.257.2414 or email at ddabneyj@st-als.org and I will put you in touch with the proper people. Thanks so much.

Volunteer for a SS. Cyril & Methodius Ministry

As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another 1 Peter 4:8-11

Below are descriptions of ministries in areas of our parish life which have the biggest need for your gifts and talents:
Art & Environment
Decorates the church and gym for Christmas and Easter and takes care of flowers and other liturgical symbols in church throughout the year. There are many opportunities to volunteer in this Ministry depending on ones availability. Choirs, Cantors and Instrumentalists, we have a place for everyone to share their musical gifts with God and our community. Most choirs rehearse weekly for an hour. Cantors are song leaders who lead the congregation in singing music for each Mass and rehearse twice a month. Cantors can sing at Masses as little or as often as they like. Other rehearsals are scheduled as needed. Our religious education program focuses on the need for students to embrace Jesus in their lives, speak about the faith they share and relate to one another so that the Word of God is always present with them. We need catechists, catechist aides and crossing guards for the upcoming school year. Classes are held on a weekly basis for an hour and a half from September until mid-April. The benefits of sharing your faith with the children of our parish are enormous. Your response now will help us prepare for the next session. The Board of Specified Jurisdiction (BSJ) is designed to cooperate and collaborate with the Pastor and principal to support the work of administering and leading the school. It is composed of a variety of committees which meet on a regular basis. The focus of each committee is to help identify and address school needs and goals. Programs and activities for the youth of the three Lemont Parishes (SS. Cyril & Methodius, St. Alphonsus and St. Patrick) are created to involve 13- to 17-year olds in parish life and continued spiritual growth. Outings, day trips, sports, scripture study and contemporary Masses are just a few of the activities sponsored throughout the year. Parents and chaperones are needed for these various events and projects. RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a program for adults interested in becoming Catholic. The role of a sponsor is to act as a guide or friend during class and around the parish. The sponsor attends the Monday evening sessions with the candidate, as they feel comfortable. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Church and welcome new members. Your response now will help us prepare for the next session. Involves planning the funeral liturgy with the family and/or serving as a sacristan for the Funeral Mass. Distribute Holy Communion (bread and wine) at Mass. Prior to becoming a Communion Minister, training is required by the Archdiocese of Chicago. Upon completion of training, the person is then commissioned at Mass and given a certificate from the Archdiocese. Communion ministers usually serve about once a month. Proclaim the Word of God at Mass and for Prayer Services and also offer the Prayers of the Faithful when a deacon is not present. Upon completion of a mandatory training program, the person is commissioned as a lector and is usually scheduled once a month. Assist parishioners upon arrival at church and help with seating during crowded liturgies. Ushers guide the faithful in an orderly manner to receive Holy Communion and they also take up the collection. Sunday sacristans help before and after Mass to prepare the liturgical items and vessels used at our Sunday liturgies. As a wedding sacristan, youll explain the wedding liturgy and practice the marriage ceremony with the bridal party, prepare our sacred space for the celebration of Mass and assist families on the day of the wedding. The rectory occasionally needs help with various office functions; Saturday receptionists, bulk mailings, bulletin and envelope stuffing.

Members of the Lemont Parishes Respect Life Committee and Youth Ministry participated with the Chicago Archdiocese in The Pilgrimage for Life in Washington DC from January 20-24th. Along with an estimated 400,000 Americans, mostly youth, the group peacefully processed from the Washington Monument to the Supreme Court Building praying for an end to abortion. Below are some comments from the Youth Ministry participants: "The March For Life was such an amazing experience. There were so many people and a lot of teens too! The March For Life made me realize how important fighting for a child's life was. I am so happy and proud to say I got to attend. It was one of the most amazing and eye-opening things I have ever done." Bridget Land "This trip was so amazing! It was truly one of the best experiences of my life! I can't wait for next year's trip!" Clare O'Donnell "I thought it was so cool seeing over 400,000 people all supporting the same cause...Life!" Terisa Hanna "It was inspiring to be a part of such a large and powerful movement all standing up to protect life." Angelica Carmen "I had a fantastic time at the March for Life. Not only was it amazing to see so many young people supporting life, I also felt the love of Christ throughout the trip, and now want to share it with others! We said many prayers during the trip and there was hardly any standing room at the Mass we attended at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. I hope that even more youth from Lemont will attend next Year." Caroline Anzalone
