ABSTRACT

“Fish Your Price”

( Anti-Broker System for Fisherman)

In response to the marginalized status of fishermen facing exploitation from brokers

and inadequate pricing for their catch, our project proposes the development of a
specialized website. This platform aims to directly connect fishermen with exporting
companies, bypassing intermediaries and enabling fair price negotiations. The
website prioritizes transparent transactions and timely payments, empowering
fishermen to secure better prices for their fish produce. This initiative seeks to
significantly improve the economic prospects and quality of life for fishermen by
providing them with a direct and equitable trading platform.

Chapter 1
Introduction
1.1 Design Thinking
Design thinking in design engineering is a user-centric problem-solving
methodology that prioritizes understanding users' needs, ideating innovative
solutions, and iteratively refining designs. It follows a structured approach
involving empathy, defining the problem, brainstorming ideas, creating prototypes,
testing, and iterating based on feedback. By empathizing with users, designers gain
insights into their perspectives and challenges. Defining the problem helps frame
issues from a human standpoint. Ideation encourages diverse thinking for potential
solutions. Prototyping allows quick creation of scaled-down versions for testing.
Testing involves gathering user feedback to refine and improve designs. Iterative
cycles enable continual enhancements. This iterative and user-focused approach
fosters creativity, encourages collaboration, and ensures that final designs meet
real user needs effectively.

1.2 Importance of design thinking

Design thinking holds significant importance in various fields due to

several key reasons:

1. User-Centric Solutions: It emphasizes understanding user needs, behaviors, and

experiences. By empathizing with users, design thinking ensures that solutions are
tailored to address real problems and meet user expectations effectively.
2. Innovation and Creativity: It fosters a culture of creativity and innovation by
encouraging brainstorming and diverse ideation. This approach promotes out-of-
thebox thinking, leading to novel and inventive solutions.
3. Problem Solving: Design thinking offers a structured framework for problem-
solving. It helps in reframing problems, identifying root causes, and finding
practical and sustainable solutions.
4. Iterative Process: The iterative nature of design thinking allows for continuous
improvement. Through prototyping, testing, and iteration, solutions evolve based
on feedback, leading to more refined and effective outcomes.
5. Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Approach: It promotes collaboration among
multidisciplinary teams, encouraging diverse perspectives and expertise. This
collaborative environment often results in holistic and comprehensive solutions.
6. Adaptability and Flexibility: Design thinking is adaptable to various contexts and
can be applied to a wide range of problems across industries. Its flexible nature
allows for adjustments and iterations throughout the design process.
7. Human-Centered Design: By prioritizing human needs and experiences, design
thinking ensures that the resulting solutions are user-friendly, intuitive, and
meaningful, ultimately improving user satisfaction and engagement.

1.3 Learning tools and assignments

Some effective tools and assignments used in design thinking education:

1. Empathy Maps: Assign students to create empathy maps by observing and

interviewing individuals to deeply understand their perspectives, emotions, and
needs.
This tool helps in developing empathy, a key component of design thinking.
2. Problem Definition Exercises: Encourage students to define problems from a
usercentric viewpoint. Assign tasks that require reframing issues to better
understand root causes and identify opportunities for innovative solutions.
3. Brainstorming Sessions: Conduct ideation sessions where students generate
and share diverse ideas to solve defined problems. Use techniques like mind
mapping, brainstorming, or "Crazy 8s" to foster creativity and expansive
thinking.
4. Prototyping and Iteration: Assign tasks that involve creating prototypes of
potential solutions, encouraging students to iterate and refine their designs
based on feedback. This hands-on approach helps in testing and improving
ideas.
5. User Testing Assignments: Have students conduct user testing sessions where
they present their prototypes to real users for feedback. This exercise helps in
understanding user reactions and refining solutions accordingly.
6. Case Studies and Project-Based Learning: Use real-world case studies or
projectbased assignments to immerse students in authentic design challenges.
This practical approach allows for application of design thinking principles in
solving complex problems.

7. Collaborative Activities: Encourage teamwork and collaboration by assigning

group projects. This fosters diverse perspectives, communication skills, and
effective teamwork, which are essential in design thinking.
8. Reflection and Feedback: Assign tasks that require students to reflect on their
design process, highlighting what worked well, what could be improved, and
lessons learned.
Peer feedback sessions also aid in improving the design thinking skills of students.

1.4 The idea to make a project

Creating a project centered around design thinking can be an exciting and
impactful endeavor. Like first we have to identify the objective for your project,
then we have to follow some steps like as follows:

Project Steps:

1. Identify a Social Challenge: Select a pressing social issue that affects a

community, such as access to clean water, education inequality, mental health
awareness, sustainable living, or urban mobility.
2. Research and Empathy: Conduct thorough research and interviews within the
community to understand the needs, challenges, and perspectives of the people
affected by the chosen issue. Create empathy maps and personas to synthesize the
gathered information.
3. Problem Definition: Define the problem statement from a user-centric viewpoint,
focusing on a specific aspect or challenge within the broader issue that the project
aims to address.
4. Ideation and Prototyping: Engage in brainstorming sessions to generate
innovative solutions. Encourage divergent thinking and create prototypes of
potential solutions, whether they're physical products, digital platforms, awareness
campaigns, or services.
5. User Testing and Feedback: Test the prototypes with the target audience or
community members. Gather feedback to understand how well the solutions meet
their needs and make necessary adjustments based on this feedback.
6. Iteration and Refinement: Continuously refine the prototypes based on user
feedback and insights gained from testing. Iterate on the designs to improve
usability, effectiveness, and overall impact.

7. Implementation and Evaluation: Implement the finalized solution in

collaboration with stakeholders or local organizations. Evaluate the effectiveness
of the solution by measuring its impact on the targeted social issue. Consider
scalability and sustainability for long-term viability.
8. Documentation and Presentation: Create a comprehensive report or presentation
showcasing the entire design thinking process, highlighting the research, ideation,
prototyping, user testing results, and the implemented solution.
