INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

1.Tell me about yourself?

I am Karen Balicuatro
I have been passionate in teaching. I always thought of becoming a teacher someday. And I thank God
because He heard my PRAYERS & heart’s desire. I graduated Bachelor of Secondary Education major in
English year 2009 after took my Master of Arts in Education major in English year 2015 I’ve been
teaching English for 12 years from 2012 to present handling English subjects .One I like the most in my
teaching career is that I am given an opportunity to share the knowledge I have like teaching students
on how to construct sentences correctly and observing its correct grammar. Writing essays, narratives
and my most favorite is sharing them the literature of other countries such as in Africa and other Asian
countries. My deep passion in teaching in English made me the English coordinator in my school for
almost 10 years where I am the one who design the reading programs and interventions of our school. I
find strategies on how to cope with those struggling readers and make them an independent reader. I
am looking forward to further develop my teaching career and I believe my experience and passion in
teaching will allow me to be a great asset to your team.

2. What are your teaching strategies?

A teaching strategy is the methos use to convey information to your students. There are 5 teaching
strategies I often used in my English class.

1. Modeling- after telling my students what to do, it’s important to show them exactly how to do
it. Regardless of how clear your instructions are, it’s a good idea to model how you expect them
to complete an assignment, so they understand exactly what they supposed to do. This will be
helpful for students who are visual learners. For example, my lesson in about modal verbs It
would be easy to provide them example of sentences and how modal verbs are being used in
the sentence.
2. Providing Feedback
Students don’t know if they’re doing a good job without telling them so. In my English class I
provide feedback through written or verbal for individual and groups task. Explaining them why
they are wrong is essential to correct the wrong concept to what is correct.
3. Graphic Organizer- summarize the information in a concise manner using a flow chart, Venn
diagram and sematic web
This strategy is always present in my English class, for ex. from the story they have read they will
give the comparison and the differences of the characters of the story and they will use the
Venn diagram to show the information.
4. Cooperative leaning- to allow the students engage in group activity to let them share the ideas
and opinions they have from the task given.
3.How do you manage your students?

Classroom management is the process teachers use to ensuring that classroom lessons run
smoothly without disruptive behavior from students compromising the delivery of instructions.
In my class I follow the key elements in classroom management.
1. Classroom design- it includes the positioning of desks, displays, storage and equipment to
create a warm and welcoming room. All the distracting items from the classroom need to be
removed. I see to it the correct seating arrangement of my students by providing a seat
plan. It is very helpful by calling the names of my students by just looking in the seat plan as
well as checking their attendance.
2. Rules – in the first day of class the expectation for behavior should be made clear from the
beginning by reviewing rules with students. This developed rule fosters respect, caring and
community in the classroom. Examples of rules is “listen when somebody is talking,” raise
your hand when you answer”, say “excuse me maam may I go out “
3. Discipline- I warned students and explain the classroom rules when I saw somebody breaks
the rule or show disruptive behavior. But it should never be hit, harass or embarred or yell
this is unprofessional.
4. Scheduling- my class kept in order by staying them on time and task. Such as there is a time
limitation whenever they do group activities and individual task. For example
From 7 to 7:30 I allotted 30 minutes for students to clean our room, after 3o mins. Starts our
class lessons.

Have a positive attitude in dealing with students praise their work instead of tearing them down.
Develop a good rapport to them it is a way of building relationship and because I know them already it is
easier for me to discipline them and the most important is to remain consistent this will help students
from repeating offenses

Effective classroom management:

1.Establishes and sustains an orderly environment in the classroom

2. increases meaningful and academic learning and facilitates social and emotional growth.

What are the traits of a good teacher?

Patience. Every student will have their own unique struggles. Some will have a difficult time reading. For
others math will not come
How to respond and handle to disruptive students?

1. Redirect behavior correctly- I found out that giving them CTA or Call to Action is useful that
focusing on the actual misbehavior. Use the Go-To Response to address the behavior like “it’s
time to get focused, Get started’. “Enough Talking, get back on Task”, get focused! Get working!
I did not ask the question like “what are you doing?”, because really, I am not interested in their
answer my main focused is to get my students back on task so that the disruptive behaviors
stop. I make sure that while I am saying those words, I make sure my voice and facial
expressions are serious. This means that I am serious and am expecting my students to comply.

How do you manage students who are misbehaving or not following instructions?
Understand the function of the behavior.

Identify if the learner has to avoid the task or attention getter. I would bring the child after class in a
private room or a corner and talk to him/her. I will listen to whatever issues or concerns and give him
proper guidance; I will find avenue for my students to express himself or if she finds difficult to the
activities, I will provide worksheets and activities suited to her learning capacity.

What if classroom expectation not meet?

If classroom expectation did not meet, I will review and review our objective, do the discussion or
activity one more time.

What assessment do you use in your class?

There are 2 assessment I used in my class. The formative assessment and summative assessment. In
formative assessment I gave quiz, rubrics, worksheets, questionnaires and summative test is given every
Friday. This summative assessment are written test, creative assignments, portfolios and peer/self-
evaluation.

How do you assess?

After implementing the test, I made differentiated instructions from the data I gather. I use
interventions and modify the instructions for each learner. For example, If half of the class did not
passed the passing score or they have a very low score or performance then it is time for me to find
activity that is more easier for them to answer and perform.

How do you collaborative with the parents?

In our practice we have 4 quarters in every school year-round and each quarter we distributed the
students report card with the grades and narrative report written in the card. During the meeting the
progress of their child is being discussed, why some of them got low, why some got failed. There is also
awarding of certificates to honor students. If sometime there is an emergency situation for a child need,
we call the parents or send an email.

hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, themes, and individual work that engage and activate

Are you ready with your credentials?

Yes. I have my agency who is in charge of processing my evaluated Foreign Transcript of Records,
Fingerprint clearance card, teaching certificates and more. They are preparing my documents ready the
moment I will receive a job offer.
Explain how your personal values are reflected in your teaching.

Just as every student is unique, learning and thinking in different ways, coming from different
backgrounds, so are we as teachers. When it comes to teaching everyone is different. I have tons of
teaching friends and each of us all believes different things and value different things within the
classroom. My personal values as an educator are what defines who I am as a teacher. Where I place
value in the classroom defines my student’s success and growth academically, socially and emotionally.

When it comes to my own personal values and beliefs around my role as a teaching and my students
learning from me I value most how my students learn. According to a study conducted by the National
Teacher Policy Institute, the difference in student When working with teachers of young children,
especially those in an early childhood education center you hear it said that young children learn
through play. An article published in Psychology Today states that there is more to play than swings,
jungle gyms and games of tag on the recess playground. Imaginative play – make-believe and pretend –
is important for young children’s healthy development. “Over the last 75 years, a number of theorists
and researchers have identified the values of such imaginative play as a vital component to the normal
development of a child,” Psychology Today reports. “Systematic research has increasingly demonstrated
a series of clear benefits of children’s engagement in pretend games from the ages of about 2½ through
ages 6 or 7. Actual studies have demonstrated cognitive benefits such as increases in language usage
including subjunctives, future tenses, and adjectives. The important concept of ‘theory of mind,’ an
awareness that one’s thoughts may differ from those of other persons and that there are a variety of
perspectives of which each of us is capable, is closely related to imaginative play. Pretend play allows
the expression of both positive and negative feelings, and the modulation of affect, the ability to
integrate emotion with cognition.” Research has also shown that imaginative play helps children
develop self-regulation skills, social skills such as problem solving and communication.
