ASSUMPTION: Although SS were taught Past Simple and Past Continuous, they still find it difficult to work with these tenses, to use both of them in sentences; they may know how to use them separately, though. ACTIVITY 1: Warm-up- Vocabulary bingo T asks her SS how they are feeling and then introduces them into the lesson. INTERACTION: T-S, S-T ORGANISATION: Individual work TIME: 3 min OBJECTIVE : to increase the SS interest in the vocabulary studied PROCEDURE: T asks students to choose five words from the poster and listen to the words being called out. When they hear a word that is on their list, they cross it. The first student to cross all the words shouts Bingo! and the game is over. MATERIALS: poster with different vocabulary items Skills: reading, listening ACTIVITY 2: T shows students word flashcards with countable or uncountable nouns and asks them to mention if they are countable or uncountable. They take turns in answering. The others have to pay attention and show thumbs up or down according to the answer. Once they answer, the teacher asks them to name the characteristics of countable and uncountable nouns.(again thumbs up or down) Then the students are given a worksheet in which they have to fill in some sentences with a/an, some, any, much, many, a lot of, few, little (exercise 1) . Once they finish the exercise, the students come to the blackboard and write the correct answers. INTERACTION: T-S, S-T ORGANISATION: pair work TIME: 7 min OBJECTIVE : to revise countable and uncountable nouns and their characteristics . MATERIALS: flashcards, worksheet Skills: reading, listening, writing ACTIVITY 3: Game (Countable and uncountable nouns) The teacher tells SS that they are going to watch a game on the screen and have to choose the correct version-much or many. SS decide in groups and show the correct card, previously given by the T. They put a tick for every correct answer and a cross for a wrong answer. The group with the most correct answers is the winner and receive smileys. INTERACTION: T-S, S-S, S-T ORGANISATION: group work TIME: 8 min OBJECTIVE : to practise the use of much /many MATERIALS: ppt presentation, laptop, overhead projector, much/ many cards Skills: reading ACTIVITY 4: T places some flashcards on the magnetic board and asks students to use Past Simple and Continuous to describe the actions in the picture. They are told that each picture shows an action in progress in the past interrupted by another action (highlighted ). SS are asked to write sentences about each picture. Next SS write the correct sentences on the blackboard. Then they have to circle the correct version (Past Simple or Past Continuous) in exercise no. 2 INTERACTION: T-S, S-S, S-T ORGANISATION: pair work TIME: 9 min OBJECTIVE : to produce sentences using Past Simple and Past Continuous. ACTIVITY 5: Crossword puzzle T shows students some pictures of famous landmarks/ products/ places/ people and asks students to name the nationality for each of them. SS are given a crossword puzzle related to nationalities . They have to read the clues and fill in the correct nationality and they have to do this as fast as they can because there is a time limit. The pair that finishes the first and within the time limit is the winner. T asks SS to write the correct answers in the big crossword puzzle placed by T on the blackboard. SS have to do the exercise as quickly as possible. INTERACTION: T-S, S-S, S-T ORGANISATION: pair work TIME: 5 min OBJECTIVE : to revise nationalities MATERIALS: crossword puzzle, poster, flashcards Skills: reading, writing ACTIVITY 6: Telephone conversations T tells students that they are going to listen to a telephone conversation and they have to fill in a text with the missing words. The they report to the class. INTERACTION: T-S, S-T ORGANISATION: individual work TIME: 7 min OBJECTIVE : to revise specific vocabulary related to telephone conversations MATERIALS: laptop, gapped text (exercise no. 3 on the worksheet) Skills: listening, reading, writing ACTIVITY 7: Role-play Based on the conversation they have listened to, SS will receive cardboard mobile phones and roleplay cards and take turns to pretend to phone each other and have a conversation choosing different activities and times each time. INTERACTION: S-S ORGANISATION: pair work TIME: 5 min OBJECTIVE : to revise specific vocabulary related to telephone conversations and to use it in pretend telephone conversations MATERIALS: role-play cards, cardboard mobile phones Skills: speaking, listening
EVALUATION AND FEEDBACK: T gives feedback for the entire class and announces SS that they dont have any homework, but they have to prepare for next time because they are having a test. Time: 1 min
