USEF University Student English Forum English as an international language is absolutely to be mastered by college students. Nowadays, in this globalization era, the communication among the people with different background of countries, languages, and cultures, will run well by using English as communication language. Based on the reality, we realize that the need of enhancing English ability by accommodating those who are enthusiastic in English so that they can actualize their English ability. USEF stands for University Student English Forum. USEF is a University students activity unit which functions as a place of a capability development and actualization of English for Students of our University. USEF is an organization of university level, and because of that, its members are from various Faculties. University Student English Forum (USEF) is a manifestation of the deal to accommodate the need of enhancing English Ability. USEF was formally established in November 2nd 1998 with the first President, Imam Mulyadi from International Relation Department, Social and Political Faculty. USEFs location is in Jember University area, on Kompleks PKM Kavling Selatan No. 3. In the first year, USEF had 5 (five) divisions to cover its activity, they are: Intellectual Division, Research and Development Division, Membership Division, Translation Division, and Debate Division. USEF is the only English organizations which has debating program in Jember. In the last three years we always join English debate events in regional and national level. Competition HIGHLIGHTs 1. TOURNAMENT Overview
English Olympiad
This competition is designed to know how well your ability in English. Elimination round for English Olympiad will be held in four places (Banyuwangi, Jember, Lumajang, Bondowoso). In this elimination round you will get written test about your english ability. All High School students within Tapal Kuda region are allowed to join this competition. Each Place only accept 100 participants, so total maximum participant in this event are 400 people. The big ten in every place will be invited to join next round on Jember. These rounds would be harder than before. Not only your ability in writing but also your speaking, listening and English Knowledge will be test on this round. So, only the best people can win this competition. If you are interested to take this challenge, you can register yourself on the nearby place (Banyuwangi, Jember, Lumajang, Bondowoso) through our contact person and dont forget to prepare yourself. Speech Contest
Basically, this competition is designed to know how good your speaking ability. Whether you are good enough to become public speaker or not. This contest consists of 2 rounds, they are preliminary and final rounds. The preliminary round will be conducted in two separated rooms, to make the preliminary process faster and more efficient. In the preliminary round, each participant should prepare for the speech that is going to be brought based on the provided topics. From all participants, 10 best participants will be chosen, that is,5 participants from Room A, 5 others from Room B. The preliminary score will not be accumulated with the final score. In the final round, each participant will be given a random topic to create his arguments within 30 minutes. After that, each participant should perform his speech

English Debate
The tournament shall adopt Asian Parliamentary debate as its format of choice. The tournament will have two stages: a preliminary stage comprised of three (3) rounds, and an elimination stage comprised of three rounds (octo-final, semi-final and grand final). For Round 1 of the Preliminary Stage, the system will match teams up on a randomly selected basis. Two teams shall be matched up to debate against each other in one (1) debate chamber. Each of the two teams debating in a single debate chamber shall be ranked by a panel of adjudicators on the basis of their ability to abide by the rules and forms prescribed for Asian Parliamentary debate, per the Adjudicator Guidelines of the World Universities Debating Championship. Power matching for the preliminary stage shall proceed thus: Total victory points shall be the first criterion in determining the team rankings for the next succeeding rounds during the preliminary stage. In the instance that two teams have the same victory points, team scores shall be employed as the next criterion in ranking the teams. By employing this power matching system, it ensures that teams will be matched against teams of an equal caliber. At the end of the preliminary stage, the top eight teams shall proceed to the octofinal round. reWARds and PRIZe s All participants shall receive Certificates of Recognition, reflecting the highest achievement garnered by participants in the tournament. And for teacher, we will also give Certificates of Recognition but only one Certificate for school. Aside the certificates, Champion in the English Olympiad shall receive a trophy and cash amounting to IDR 400,000 And the first runner up shall receive a trophy and cash amounting to IDR 300,000, Then the second runner up shall receive a

trophy and cash amounting to IDR 200,000. For speech contest, Champion shall receive a trophy and cash amounting to IDR 600,000 And the first runner up shall receive a trophy and cash amounting to IDR 450,000 Then, the second runner up shall receive a trophy and cash amounting to IDR 300,000. And for debate competition, the Champion shall receive a trophy and cash amounting to IDR 600,000 And the first runner up shall receive a trophy and cash amounting to IDR 500,000 Then, the second runner up shall receive a trophy and cash amounting to IDR 400,000. Dont worry, for you who really have good ability in person, theres award for the best speaker of the debate competition and you will receive a trophy and cash value of IDR 100,000.
