What is Mechatronics?
Mechatronics is the synergistic combination of precision mechanical engineering, electronic control and systems thinking in the design of products and manufacturing processes.
Vision Statements
Teach our students to learn to design and build electro-mechanical systems, and intelligent machines and products Teach them to be able to function in environment that fosters interdisciplinary activities
Course Format
In-class lectures
Class meets 3 hours per week Lecturing is done by instructor Students can participate in lecturing (optional)
Laboratory Experience
Electronic Exercises Done by individual student Takes each student about 1 hour per week to complete each one Three Electronic Exercises (1, 2 and 3) are assigned: Overview of test equipment, soldering and RC filters 555 Timer and its applications Stepper motor controller and driver
Course Format
Group Lab Exercises Done in groups of 3 students Each group spends about 3 hours every two weeks to complete Four group lab exercises are assigned per semester
Interfacing host computer with MC9S12C32 and sequencing light emitting diodes. Strain gage data acquisition using A/D conversion DC motor control using interrupts and pulse width modulation (real-time control) Programmable logic controller (PLC)
Note: Each lab assignment is demonstrated; and only two lab exercises require report
