federation of national standards bodies, at present comprising of
127 members, one in each country

What is ISO 14000 ?


ISO 14000 is a series of international, voluntary environmental
management standards.

Applicable in all nations
Should promote the broad interests of the public and the users of the
standard.
Should be cost effective, non-prescriptive, and flexible, to allow them
to meet the differing needs of organizations of any size worldwide.

Determine how it will fulfill requirements of this standard

Top management shall define the environmental policy:


 Appropriate to the nature, scale and environmental impacts of its
activities
 Commitment to continual improvement & compliance with
applicable legal requirements.
 Setting up and reviewing environmental objectives& targets
 Documented, implemented and maintained
 Communicated to all persons working for or on behalf of the
organization & available to the public

Model Environmental Policy
Century Rayon, is committed to maintain it’s Environmental management System in sound state. It
stresses strict compliance of all applicable rules and regulations, maximizing resource utilization
and reduction in waste generation. To adhere to it’s commitments and values the company shall
endeavor to:-
 Regularly set and review objectives for continual improvement in work environment
performance.
 Ensure compliance of all required statutory, legal and regulatory norms and strive to achieve
beyond set and new standards.
 Ensure safe working environment through continuous monitoring and controlling work place
hazards with a view to protect our employees and community.
 Conserve key resources like water, air, fuel, raw material and energy by monitoring and
optimizing their use
 Policy will be made available to relevant parties and communicated to all employees for
awareness and to encourage their active participation in the environment management system.

Definitions:
Environmental aspect: Element of an organization’s activities,
products or services that can interact with the environment
Environmental impact: Any change to the environment, whether
adverse or beneficial, wholly or partially resulting from an
organization’s environmental aspects.

response procedures in particular after the occurrence of
accidents or emergency situations.

Top management shall review the EMS at planned intervals to

- Ensure its continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness.

Reviews shall include:


- Assessing opportunities for improvement & the need for changes
to the EMS, including the environmental policy, objectives &
targets

Records of reviews shall be retained
