    Target Audience

    Analysis of Planning Questionnaire responses

    I decided to include this question as I think it
    helps to understand where the responses are
    coming from.
    After collecting 100 responses, I have found that
    I have more responses from the female gender
    than male.
    Im not entirely sure whether or not this would
    affect my results however knowing that 65% is
    female and 35% is male. After looking at the
    results of my next questions I have a better
    understanding of what view the majority of
    females have towards documentaries etc. It will
    also help me decide who my target audience is.

    I asked this question to further my
    knowledge for my target audience. I have
    found that around 72% of my responses
    are from people ranging from 13 to 19.
    I was expecting to have this result as I feel
    that this age group is easiest for me to
    relate and interact with as I am within that
    age range myself. I was also expecting that
    the age range of 12 and under would be
    very low as documentaries dont really
    appeal to that age group generally.

    I wanted to see how many people actually have
    seen a documentary, as from my knowledge the
    documentary genre isnt very popular compared
    to the other genres such as comedy or thriller.
    Therefore after receiving the responses to this
    question I was surprised to find that 83/100
    people have seen at least one documentary.
    I also asked them the comment the documentary
    that theyve seen. The most common answers
    were David Attenborough Planet Earth
    Blackfish and Amanda Knox. I find these
    answers interesting as I am able to see the type
    of documentaries that are commonly watched
    which is the Expository mode.

    I asked this question to gather basic
    opinions on what they feel makes a
    documentary worth watching. I have found
    the answers helpful as they consist of the
    generic conventions of the documentary
    genre.
    The majority of the answers included a
    good narrative and real life events. Which
    helps me confirm my idea of using the real
    events of the black cultures history.

    I wanted to see which of the two ideas


    would be more successful to my target
    audience.
    I myself have always had the idea of using
    real footage of protests etc.
    The results have also confirmed that they
    would rather see real footage; 89% instead
    of a reconstruction; 10%.

    I wanted to include this question as I felt I was
    struggling on what audio to use within my short
    documentary film. The answers I received were
    somewhat helpful however I feel that people
    dont really acknowledge audio therefore they
    cant decide on what audio they think is effective
    hence why 10 people skipped this question and
    some answers were I dont know
    Although I was able to find that the responses
    included the majority of audio techniques such as
    Sound bridges Voiceovers and Sound-tracks
    therefore its more likely that I will be using one
    of these audio techniques within my film.

    I asked this question as I myself is opposed
    to including witnesses or interviews as I
    feel that theyre too generic in
    documentaries. Ive also had the idea that
    documentaries are able to express their
    ideas without witnesses and interviews to
    do it for them.
    The majority chose that it depends on the
    topic which yes follows therefore my idea
    to challenge the common conventions and
    neglect interviews would be going against
    the majority of my target audience
    responses.

    After the other question, I decided to
    include this one to figure out whether to
    comprise facts and figures to which my
    results show that 74/100 believe that facts
    and figures should be given to them when
    watching a documentary that contains real
    events.
    I agree with the responses as I wanted to
    include facts and figures therefore I am
    able to confirm that using facts and figures
    is expected.
