INTRODUCTION
The oil industry has reached the point where a
substantial understanding of the physical principles
related to the development and production of oil and
gas accumulation, is a prerequisite to the maximum
recovery of Hydrocarbon at minimum cost
DEFINITIONS
Resevoirlogy:-
Is a unique word, streaming from the combination of
two words “RESERVOIR” and “LOGY” which means
“Reservoir Studies”
Which is a major process in the E & P business
DEFINITIONS
Integrated: webstar dictionary:- It is a combination of
separate and diverse elements of units into a more
complete or harmonious whole.
In the E&P domain.: it is primarily concerned with the
manner in which different Disciplines are combined to
improve on an established (or create a new) analytical
process.
E&P:- means Exploration and Production or also known
as Oil and Gas industry.
objective
 How different disciplines play major roles in the E&P
business
 How they are integrated for better Efficiency and
quality delivery
 Less time to execute projects
 Low cost
 ** More Profit
 “According to Muskat 1949”

Oil producing reservoirs are not the product of a mass

assembly line, designed and constructed according to
specifications..
But they are objects of individual study and analysis.
WHY STUDY THE RESERVOIR
Reservoirs are the asset of the E&P domain and must be
guided jealously, much capital is involved therefore we
must study and understand our asset closely so as to:
1. Avoid loss
2. Know the reservoir boundaries
3. Know the quantity of hydrocarbon in our reservoir
4. Have a good control over production
5. Fully maximise and exploit the reserve
6. Better profits
AIM OF THE STUDIES
Fully understand our reservoir systems ranging from .
Fluid present
The rock type
Structures within the rock
Building a conceptual model with computer
To simulate/ test the model with different conditions to
see how the model will react in real time.
Basically. We want to know how much oil we have in our
reservoir and how much of it we can produce to the
surface , With Great profit
 Note:
Most reservoirs are located several feet bellow the earth
surface, And till date no one has been there before.
Therefore the challenge ,
How do we now know what is beneath the earth ?
And how can we know what lies beneath……….?

Geophysicst
 The major objective of a geophysicist is to recognize
the actual subsurface geologic structure of the earth,
which has obvious value towards the exploitation of
hydrocarbons.
 Though they also do other works which are very
important in the characterizing of the reservoir.

PETROPHYSICST
 Petrophysics is the study of rock properties and their
interactions with fluid (gases, liquid hydrocarbons, and
aqueous solutions)
 The main objective of petrophysics is to identify and
quantify hydrocarbon in the subsurface and evaluate
the fluid as well as rock properties
 The petrophysicist rely mostly on indirect methods to
measure down hole rock and fluid properties
These data acquisition is based on principles of physics
such as resistivity, radioactivity, nuclear, acoustic,
magnetic resonance etc

Petroleum geologist
 Generally, the duty of a petroleum geologist is to
discover the location and amount of useful fuel in
sediments or reservoirs.
 They are may be required to interpret geophysical
information in project reports,
 conduct field studies to analyze project data
 Accurately estimate fuel amounts, interpret and
implement drilling strategies for extraction and create
post-project reports summarizing the project.

Resevoir Engineer
 Reservoir engineering is a branch of petroleum
engineering that applies scientific principles to the
drainage problems arising during the development
and production of oil and gas reservoirs so as to obtain
a high economic recovery.
 They also play a central role in field development
planning, recommending appropriate and cost
effective reservoir depletion schemes such as
waterflooding or gas injection to maximize
hydrocarbon recovery.

HOW IS THE STUDY DONE
 Basically there is a chain of workflow from Geology to
engineering
Where by the earth/reservoir is defined and modeled BY
the geologist and the Engineers are to dynamically
simulate the model to see the behavior after a period
of time.

Aftermath
After the whole study is done
. Reports are written
. Critical decisions are made , driven by Profit
. Better productions
. Everyone goes home smiling.
They come up with several graphs after their analysis
to describe the behavior and properties of the Reservoir
WIT QUOTES
 What ever is worth doing is worth doing well
 The major difference between
 A good student and a bad one
 A good biz man / a bad one
 A good pastor a bad one

STUDY
STUDY

this is a vital process in life that helps an individual improve

in KNOLEDGE over a particular subject

And it definitely boost our performance/ productivity

CONCLUSION
 The E&P is capital intensive and any
mistake or failure will incur great loss.
 Therefore so much care must be taken
to avoid this, hence a proper understanding of the
systems and properties of the Asset (Reservoir) is of
great necessity
 When this is fully understood
 Quality / efficiency
 Less time
 Low cost
 more profit.
