File Manager - Introduction

• Who uses PD Tools?


– Developers (File Manager, Fault Analyzer, Debug, IMS, DB2
Tools)
– BAs (File Manager)
– SQA (File Manager)
• Research / View Streamline Files
• Data Identification
• Automation ?
File Manager - Logging In
• You must access File Manager on your
BC0 or AN0 Mainframe UserID.

• Open a Reflection or Extra Mainframe


Session.
– Log in as you would normally to access
Streamline.
– Enter HSS from the initial login screen.
– Enter UserID and password.

• Select TSOB from the Supersession Main Menu
– TSO is the system
– B means ‘TEST’
– There is also a TSOA option
– A means ‘PRODUCTION’

• Enter SPF
– You will be taken to the ISPF Primary Option Menu

• Key ‘go2 (space) pdtools’ on the Option Line

• You are taken to the IBM PD and DB2 Tools Menu

• Enter ‘1’ on the Option Line and press enter to
access IBM File Manager ZOS
• You are taken to the Primary Option Menu

• Enter ‘1’ on the Command Line and press enter

• You are taken to the View Entry Panel screen

• You will need to enter a valid Data set/path name (or file name)
– What do you want to look at?

• Data set name (or library)


– Where is it located?

• Member (copybook or template)


– What is the format?

• You can look at the file unformatted (not using a copybook) - Search
capabilities are limited

or

• You can look at it formatted (using a copybook or template)

• You can choose your search criteria by “editing the template.”

• This option only applies if you are viewing the file using a copybook or
template.

• You will be taken to the Record Selection Criteria.


File Manager – Record Selection Criteria

• The record selection criteria screen will list all of the field
names that are located within the selected copybook or
template.

• You can specify that data within the records that you
want retrieved by using an operator and data value.

• Most common operators


– EQ: Equal
– NE: Not Equal
– CO: Contains

• If you know the field name that you are looking for you can enter f (space)
and the field name on the command line and press enter.

• You will be taken directly to that field.

• If you do not know the field name you can move forward (F8) and backward
(F7) through the copybook until you find the field you are looking for.

• Enter the Operator in the OP field and the Data in the Value field.
• The data in the Value field must be in all capital letters or your search will not work.
• To move back to the beginning of the template, key an ‘M’ on the command line and
press the F7 key.
• To move forward to the end of the template, key an ‘M’ on the command line and
press the F8 key.
• Press F6 to run the search with the data specified in the template.

• A list of records is displayed that meets your
search criteria.

• You will notice that all of the fields present in the


template, are also on this page – along the top.

(Navigation)
• L (space) field Name: Takes you to the copybook field
• F (space) data value: Finds all instances of that data
value
• M + F8: Brings you to the beginning of the list
• M + F7: Takes you to the end of the list
• F8: Forward
• F7: Backward
• M + F10: All the way to the left
• M + F11: All the way to the right
• F10: Left
• F11: Right
• Add Zoom and going into a record and moving forward
and backward.

(Template Edit)
• In addition to editing the data in the template, you can also select
which fields you want to display.

• Enter ‘TE’ (Template Edit) on the Command Line and press enter.

• You are taken to the Field Selection / Edit screen.

• For example: I only want to see the Subscriber’s ID
number and Claim Number.
• Key an ‘S’ by the fields that you want to keep and press
enter.
• Press F6 again to run the search.

• Your list is displayed again but only with the
fields that you specified

(Data Edit)
• If you want to change your search criteria, enter ‘DE’ (Data Edit) on the command line
and press enter.

• Screen shot
• You are taken back to the Record Selection Criteria Screen.
• Enter your additional filtering criteria.
• Press F6 to run your search again.

• Your list will be displayed with the updated
search criteria.
• If you are finished with this search, then press
F3 to return to the View Entry Panel Screen.
