    The Birhen sa Kasilak Shrine in Mindanao has a history dating back to 1596. In the late 1940s, Christian leaders brought the image of the Birhen sa Kasilak to Bohol. In 1962, residents from Butuan and Bohol agreed to build a chapel to house the image. The chapel became part of the Saint Joseph Parish in 1963 and was turned over to the Holy Redeemer Parish in 1967. In 1998, the Birhen sa Kasilak became its own parish separating from Holy Redeemer. The shrine holds various annual religious festivals and events throughout the year.

     1596 – first Butuan Mission visitation


    of Jesuit Priest
    The missionary chruch of Patron said
    butuan was blessed on the was the
    feast of the Birth of the Virigin Blessed Virgin
    Mary on September 8, 1597. Mary
    Late 40s- The early Christian leaders with
    their priest brought with them the image to
    Bohol.
    1962- Both the Butuanons and Bol-
    anons agreed to build a chapel.
    Arsenio Fortun ( Butuanon )
    Florencio Roperos ( Bol-anon)
    Both of them were able to secure
    the image of the Birhen of Kasilak
    and agreed that she be their patron
    saint.
    September 8, 1963 - First mass of the feast
    of Birhen sa Kasilak was celebrated.
    This Chapel (Birhen of Kasilak) became one of the
    member of the Saint Joseph Parish

    1967- It was turned over to


    the Holy Redeemer Parish.
    September 7-9 - During Quadricentennial
    Celebration, it was then declared by the bishops
    and clergy of Mindanao as a Mindanao Shrine.

    declared by Msgr. Juan de
    Dios M. Pueblos, the
    Birhen sa Kasilak will
    become a Parish
    separating it from the Holy
    Redeemer Parish.
