Introduction
• Plant diseases have turned into a dilemma as it can
cause significant reduction in both quality and quantity
of agricultural products.
• The naked eye observation is the main approach

adopted in practice for detection and identification of
plant diseases.
• At present, the diagnosis of crops diseases mostly
depend on manual recognition, but it can be mistakenly
diagnosed by farmers because they usually judge the
symptom by their experiences; also the disease
treatment may be dallied over because the technician
or expert can’t go to field to diagnose in good time.
• Misidentification usually leads to some incorrect

control measurements, such as indiscriminate and
untimely use of pesticides.
• Automatic detection of plant diseases is an essential
research topic as it may prove benefits in monitoring
large fields of crops, and early detection of the
symptoms of diseases as soon as they appear on plant
leaves.
• Due to deficiency in the balance of mineral levels in

food crops, the production often gets severely affected.
Such deficiencies in the balance of mineral levels can be
identified by detecting the change in the appearance of
plant leaves using image analysis based techniques.
• Relative to the person’s vision, computer image
processing technique take on some characteristics such
as speediness, huge information and distinguish small
diversity which can’t be distinguished by person’s eyes.
• Image processing technique can help farmers to judge

the reasons and severity of crop diseases, and it takes
on important theoretical and practical significance for
improving the automatic management of crop.
• For detecting crop diseases early and accurately, many

researchers have used image processing and
classification techniques for detecting diseases of
agricultural or economic crops.
PROPOSED APPROACH
• The aim of this work is threefold:
1. Identifying the infected object(s) by using Enhanced

image preprocessing.
2. Extracting the features set of the infected objects.
3. Detecting and classifying the type of disease using

Fuzzy & ANNs, moreover, the presented scheme
classifies the plant leaves at hand into infected and
not-infected classes.
Flow Chart of the Proposed Methodology
• Image Segmentation: It means to separate the object from
background for following processing in an image.
• Intensity Enhancement: The main purpose of Intensity

enhancement is to bring out details that are hidden in an image.
• FEATURE EXTRACTION :Transforming the input data into the

set of features is called feature extraction.
• TRAINING: For training of neural network Fuzzy & ANN base

approach is proposed. Fuzzy logic is superset of conventional
(Boolean) logic that has been extended to handle the concept of
partial truth. An artificial neural network is an adaptive system i.e.
each parameter is changed during its operation and it is deployed
for solving the problem in matter. This is called the training phase.

Altenaria leaf spot
• Altenaria leaf spot(Alternaria macrospora) is
primarily a leaf disease. The fungus survives on
undecomposed trash from previous cotton
crops, and is spread by air-borne spores.
Infection is favoured by wet weather and
temperatures of approximately 27°C. Plants are
most susceptible at the seedling stage and late
in the season when the crop begins to 'cut out'.

Bacterial Blight
Bacterial blight is caused by Xanthomonas campestris
pv. malvacearum. This bacterium survives in seed, on
seed lint and in infested plant residues. Initially, green,
round to elongate, water soaked spots appear on leaves.
Eventually, lesions become angular or irregular-shaped.
The spots are brown to black in color and are found
between veins and along the main leaf veins and
petioles.
