• Micro grid is aimed to give power supply for small area. It is like providing power for remote area where supply cannot be given from main grid. WHAT IS MICROGRID ? • A small network of electricity users with a local source of supply that is usually combined to a centralized main grid but it can able to function independently. NEED OF MICROGRID
• Microgrid could be the solution to our energy crisis.
• Provide high quality and reliable power supply. • Power transmission losses are highly reduced. • Space required for transmission is reduced considerably. • Maintenance and initial cost for transmission lines will get reduced. CONCEPT OF MICROGRID TYPES OF MICROGRID
• There are two types of operating modes . They are,
a. Island Mode b. Grid Connected Mode a. Island Mode
• Utility grid is not supplying power.
• Static switch is open. • Feeder A,B,C are being supplied by micro sources. • Feeder D is dead (not sensitive) b. Grid Connected Mode • Utility grid is active. • Static switch is closed. • All the feeders are being supplied by utility grid. INTERCONNECTED MICROGRIDS • A practical microgrid can produce only some amount of power. • For larger loads, many microgrids are interconnected to form a larger microgrid network is called power parks. CONVENTIONAL GRID VS MICROGRID • Efficiency of conventional grid is very low when compared to micro grid. • Large amount of energy in the form of heat is wasted in conventional grids. • Transmission losses and cost is reduced when compared to microgrid. ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF MICROGRID
• It encourages the use of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, water etc.., • Land use impact is reduced. • CO2 emissions are reduced. DISADVANTAGES OF MICROGRID
• Capital cost is high.
• Maintenance is more complex. • Protection of microgrid is the major problem. ADVANTAGES OF MICROGRID
• Losses are reduced.
• Transmission cost is highly reduced. • Efficiency is high. • Environmental Friendly. • Encourages renewable energy sources. • Non-stop power supply.
