    Rizal returned to Hong Kong in 1891 where he opened a medical clinic and continued writing. He helped develop a colonization project in North Borneo but it failed. In Hong Kong, he laid the basis for the secret society La Liga Filipina with the goals of uniting the Philippines and protecting citizens from injustice. Rizal decided to return to the Philippines to seek justice and shoulder burdens facing his family. He founded La Liga Filipina in Manila in July 1892 but was soon deported to Dapitan by the Spanish due to his writings and society.
