Accent Lighting- Uses
- Accent lighting could be the spot light on river rock fireplace

- or the light inside your china cabinet,

- or even the picture lights that focus your attention on the painting hanging on the
wall,

- it could also be the halogen puck lights under your kitchen cabinets,

- the fluorescent back-lighting at the top of your kitchen cabinets,

- or the rope lighting in the kick-space under your kitchen cabinets.

- Dining rooms and living rooms, along with entrance foyers and other areas of
special architectural interest, benefit most from accent lighting.

- Accent lighting is also used for dramatic flair in landscape lighting

How to use
To be dramatic, accent lighting should be at least three
times as intense as the surrounding area.

For highlighting paintings you want to use a spacing ratio

of about 2/3:1, with the second number representing the
distance from the centre of the painting to the ceiling,
and the first number is the distance between light and
wall. For highlighting three dimensional pieces of art, like
a statue you would use the same 2/3:1 spacing ratio, but
you would need to hit it from multiple directions about
18" between lights.
Dimmer lights gives the option of having
lights all the way up or all the way down.
Task Lighting
Task lighting should be at least double normal
ambient light. The light level in a living room or dining
room might be anywhere between 10 to 20 FC, and
by the chair in the living room where you read beside
you might have it up to 50 FC, but in the work area of
a kitchen, or in a home office you may want it up to
100 FC in brightness.
Task Lighting
Task Lighting-
Definition
Task lighting is the lighting that you need, to be able to do a task, it may
be the most overlooked, yet most important, type of lighting application
in our homes and work places.

Good task lighting makes work easier on the eyes, prevents headaches,
makes cooking more enjoyable, and allows the individual to better
concentrate on the job at hand with the added safety of a good light.

Task lights focus light in a particular direction or area, without casting

any glare and minimize shadows on work.

Task lighting should always be used in conjunction with proper ambient

light, having a bright desk lamp in a dark office will only add to your eye
strain every time you look up from your desk.
