Flow Chart / Process Diagram
• A flow chart shows how something is
done or made.
• 4. 适当使用定语从句
• 5. 恰当使用顺序词 e.g. at the first / second /
following / final stage of the process, next, after
that, then, finally etc.
Group Activity
• Have you ever eaten Jiaozi?
• Did you know how it is made?
(How many steps it includes? )
--Step 1 ?
--Step 2 ?
--Step 3 ?
....
• Could you draw graphic symbols to show
the whole process?
1.dough: 面团 3.roller :擀面杖 4.wrapper:
2. ferment: 发
饺子皮
酵
5.mince/chop:
剁碎
• 1. At first, the dough is fermented
at room temperature.
• 2. Next, a bit of dough is taken and it
is shaped into small balls.
• 3. After this, the balls are flattened
with a roller.
• 4.In the following stage, pork is
chopped very fine.
• 5. Then, the minced meat is mixed wit
h chopped Chinese cabbage, celery or
leek.
• 6. You can then fold the edges and pr
ess them tight.
流程图写作结构
• Introduction: rewrite the question in a
different way
• Summary:
(1) Say how many steps there are
(2) a. If No. of Steps is less than 4,
briefly mention each one.
b. If No. of Steps is more than 4,
mention the first and the last steps.
• Main body: Describe the process step by
step.
• 7. Finally, the prepared Jiao-zi are
poured into boiling water until they
are floating.
流程图解题顺序
• I. Reading a process diagram – find
the beginnings and ends ( p.52)
• II. Understand the different stages of
the process
• III. Find a way of organising your
description
• IV. Report structure
每段具体内容及要求
• Write the introduction by
paraphrasing the question (rewrite it
by changing some of the words).
• For your summary, first say how
many steps there are in the process.
Then say where/how the process
begins and ends (look at the first and
last stages).
每段具体内容及要求
• In paragraphs 3 and 4, describe the
process step by step. Include the first
and last steps that you mentioned in
the summary, but try to describe
them in more detail or in a different
way.
• Start paragraph 4 somewhere in the
middle of the process.

Introduction Sentence: The chart illustrates the way in which water pass
es from ocean to air to land during the natural process known as the water cy
cle.
• The picture illustrates the way in which water passes from ocean to air to
land during the natural process known as the water cycle.
• Three main stages are shown on the diagram. Ocean water evaporates,
falls as rain, and eventually runs back into the oceans again.
• Beginning at the evaporation stage, we can see that 80% of water vapour
in the air comes from the oceans. Heat from the sun causes water to
evaporate, and water vapour condenses to form clouds. At the second
stage, labelled ‘precipitation’ on the diagram, water falls as rain or snow.
• At the third stage in the cycle, rainwater may take various paths. Some of
it may fall into lakes or return to the oceans via ‘surface runoff’. Otherwise,
rainwater may filter through the ground, reaching the impervious layer of
the earth. Salt water intrusion is shown to take place just before
groundwater passes into the oceans to complete the cycle.
The diagrams below show the life cycle of the silkworm and the
stages in the production of silk cloth.
• The figures illustrate the stages in the life of a silkworm and the process of producing
silk cloth.
• There are four main stages in the life cycle of the silkworm, from eggs to adult moth.
The process of silk cloth production involves six steps, from silkworm cocoon to silk
material.
• According to the first diagram, eggs are produced by the moth and it takes ten days
for each egg to become a silkworm larva that feeds on mulberry leaves. The stage
lasts for up to six weeks until the larva produces a cocoon of silk thread around itself.
After a period of about three weeks, the adult moths eventually emerge from these
cocoons and the life cycle begins again.
• The second chart shows that the cocoons are the raw material used for the
producgion of silk cloth. Once selected they are boiled in water and the threads can
be seperated in the unwinding stage. Each thread is between 300 and 900 metres
long, which means they can be twisted together, dyed and then used to produe cloth
in the weaving stage.
