THE CARIBBEAN REGION
Caribbean Region is characterized by its warm
climate and its spectacular beaches. It is mostly
made up of flat land, but it also houses the
highest mountainous mountainous formation in
the world: the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. On
its coasts is the Sanctuary of Big Swamp of
Santa Marta, composed of mangroves of forest,

ATLANTICO
is one of the thirty-two departments that,
together with Bogotá, Capital District, form the
Republic of Colombia. Its capital is
Barranquilla. It is located in the Caribbean
region, bordering to the north with the
Caribbean Sea (Atlantis Ocean), to the east
with Magdalena and to the west with Bolivia.
It communicates artificially with the Pacific
Ocean through the Panama Canal and with the
Indian Ocean through the Suez Canal.
MAGDALENA
is one of the thirty-two departments that, together with Bogota,
Capital District, form the Republic of Colombia. Its capital is
Santa Marta. It is located to the northeast of the country, in the
Caribbean region, bordering on the north with the Caribbean Sea
(Atlantic Ocean), to the northeast with La Guajira, to the east
with Cesar, to the south and west with Bolivar and to the
northwest with Atlantic.
It was one of the original nine states that formed the United
States of Colombia. The department takes the name of the river
that bathes it by its western side Magdalena. In the north of this
department is the municipality of Aracataca, famous for being the
birthplace of Nobel Prize-winning writer Gabriel García Márquez
in 1927; and in Santa Marta, the military leader Simón Bolívar
died in 1830.
TRADITIONAL MUSIC FROM THE CARIBBEAN
REGION
Music is a very important aspect for this region of
Colombia. Some of the most important genera are, the
porro, the Vallenato the Mapale, the cumbia, among
others. These genera come from predominant black,
indigenous and Spanish roots. European (Spanish)
music on arrival was adapted to African-American
changes. One of the most general characteristics of
the genres is the "tropical flavor", this is called
cheerful and colorful music, which pays homage to
the African American culture.
INDIGENOUS TRIBES OF THE
CARIBBEAN REGION
La región Caribe, que tiene 142.000 kilómetros
cuadrados, es asiento de importantes pueblos indígenas.
Allí está la península de La Guajira, una región
semidesértica en la que vive el pueblo Wayuu, el más
numeroso de las pueblos indígenas del país. Desde la WAYUU
costa se levanta el gigantesco macizo montañoso de
cerca de 17.000 Km2 conocido como la Sierra Nevada KOGUI
de Santa Marta en la que viven los pueblos Kogui,
Arhuaco y Wiwa (Malayo), conocidos por su WIWA
religiosidad, laboriosidad y amor por la tierra.
