    WHAT IS CYBER CRIME ?

    COMPUTER CRIME OR CYBERCRIME IS A FORM OF


    CRIME WHERE THE INTERNET OR COMPUTERS ARE USED
    AS A MEDIUM TO COMMIT CRIME.
    HACKING
    Hacking in simple terms means illegal intrusion into a
    computer system without the permission of the computer
    owner/user.
    VIRUS DISSEMINATION
    • Malicious software that attaches itself to other
    software.
    Eg:-
    (virus,, worms,, Trojan Horse, Time bomb,
    Logic Bomb,, Rabbit and Bacterium are the
    malicious software)
    SOFTWARE PRIVACY

    • THEFT OF SOFTWARE THROUGH THE ILLEGAL COPYING OF


    GENUINE PROGRAMS OR THE COUNTERFEITING AND
    DISTRIBUTION OF PRODUCTS INTENDED TO PASS FOR THE
    ORIGINAL.
    • RETAIL REVENUE LOSSES WORLDWIDE ARE EVER INCREASING
    DUE TO THIS CRIME CAN BE DONE IN VARIOUS WAYS

    • EG:-END USER COPYING, HARD DISK LOADING, COUNTERFEITING,


    ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS FROM THE INTERNET ETC.
    INTERNET RELAY CHAT

     INTERNET RELAY CHAT (IRC) SERVERS HAVE CHAT ROOMS IN


    WHICH PEOPLE FROM ANYWHERE THE WORLD CAN COME
    TOGETHER AND CHAT WITH EACH OTHER.
     CRIMINALS USE IT FOR MEETING CO-CONSPIRATORS.
     HACKERS USE IT FOR DISCUSSING THEIR EXPLOITS / SHARING
    THE TECHNIQUES.
     CYBER STALKING - IN ORDER TO HARASS A WOMAN HER
    TELEPHONE NUMBER IS GIVEN TO OTHERS AS IF SHE WANTS TO
    BEFRIEND MALES
    NET EXTORTION

    • COPYING THE COMPANY’S CONFIDENTIAL


    DATA IN ORDER TO EXTORT SAID COMPANY
    FOR HUGE AMOUNT.

    MAKE THE PERSON LIABLE AS IF HE WAS THE
    ONE WHO UTTERED THE DEFAMATORY
    STATEMENT?
    • IN A FEBRUARY 18, 2014 SC RULING, THE
    HIGHEST COURT RULED THAT ONLINE LIBEL IS
    CONSTITUTIONAL, BUT SUBJECT TO ONE
    CONDITION: ONLY THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR, NOT
    THOSE WHO RECEIVE OR REACT TO THE POST
    CAN BE PENALIZED.

    PRACTICE LAW FOR ONE (1) YEAR FOR POSTING INSULTING REMARKS
    AGAINST DR. VICTORIA “VICKI” BELO-HENARES, A POPULAR DOCTOR
    AMONG SHOWBIZ PERSONALITIES.
    • ALL CRIMES DEFINED AND PENALIZED BY THE
    REVISED PENAL CODE, AS AMENDED, AND
    SPECIAL LAWS, IF COMMITTED BY, THROUGH
    AND WITH THE USE OF INFORMATION AND
    COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES SHALL BE
    COVERED BY THE RELEVANT PROVISIONS OF
    THIS ACT: PROVIDED, THAT THE PENALTY TO BE
    IMPOSED SHALL BE ONE (1) DEGREE HIGHER
    THAN THAT PROVIDED FOR BY THE REVISED
    PENAL CODE, AS AMENDED, AND SPECIAL
    LAWS, AS THE CASE MAY BE.
