WHAT IS TOURISM?
• Tourism can be defined as the processes, activities, and outcomes arising from the
relationships and interactions among tourists, tourism suppliers, host governments,
host communities, and surrounding environments that are involved in the attracting
and hosting of visitors.

• Tourism is a composite of activities, services, and industries that deliver a travel


experience.

Tourism refers to the activities of persons travellin to and stayin in places


outside their usual environment for more than one day but not more than
one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes other than to
be remunerated at the place visited.
FOUR DIFFERENT
PERSPECTIVE OF TOURISM
1. The Tourist.
2. The businesses providing tourist goods and services.
3. The government of the host community or area.
4. The host community.
TOURISM CATEGORY
1. International Tourism
a. Inbound tourism
b. Outbound tourism

2. Internal tourism - visits by residents and nonresidents of the country of reference

3. Domestic tourism - visits by residents of a country to their own country

4. National tourism - internal tourism plus outbound tourism


TRAVELER
Traveler defined as”any person on a trip between two or more countries or between
two or more localities within hi/her country of usual residence.”

All visitors are subdivided into two further categories:


1. Same day visitors
2. Tourist
WHY DO PEOPLE TRAVEL?
Why do people travel? What motivates them to travel? If you stop and think about it,
you quickly realize there are many reasons. When people decide to leave the comfort
of their home and go to another location for a while, there is always a reason.
