he goes back outside the wall.

Two weeks after he disappeared, Keith nonchalantly returns to the house, unharmed and much better dressed than he
was when he left.

the grandmother of the Cruz household was killed. The watch was able to kill two of the thieves, but a third escaped.
Lauren Olamina believes Keith talked about where he was from and alerted his supposed friends to vulnerable targets.

Reverend Olamina has not come home from his job at the college

Lauren and Marcus go out with the search party, but they never conclusively find the reverend.

Despite the best efforts of almost everyone in the neighborhood, no one has found the reverend, alive or dead. Lauren
preaches the sermon for him on Sunday morning and thanks everyone.
CHAPTER 13

Reverend Robinson, who baptized Lauren Olamina, holds an actual funeral for her father at Cory Olamina's request

An armored truck comes to transport the Garfields to Olivar
◦ Thursday, December 24, 2026
Robbers set the Payne-Parrish house on fire so they can rob other houses in the neighborhood while people are putting it
out. Wardell is the only survivor.
◦ Tuesday, December 29, 2026
The university lets Cory take over part of her late husband's job; she'll have to pay for an escort to get to and from work.
She used to work at the university before it got too dangerous. Lauren will take over the school, and two of the
neighborhood men will take over preaching. The community is adapting.
◦ Wednesday, December 30, 2026
Wardell Parrish says he's going home. He cannot stay in Robledo. Everyone is dead. Lauren suspects he won't live long
either.
