The document discusses the design of a circular water tank using GFRP bars. It includes the design of the top slab, columns, ring beam, and footing.

The objectives are to design a circular water tank using GFRP bars with required strength, durability and economy and to study the analysis and design of the water tank.

Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) bars are being used as an alternative to steel reinforcement due to their non-corrosive nature.

OBJECTIVE

 To design circular water tank using GFRP bars with

required strenght ,durability and economy

 To make a study the analysis and design of water tank

 To make a study about the design of liquid retaining

structure according to IS Code
SCOPE
 Using Glass fiber Reinforced Polymer bars have been
developed as an alternative to steel reinforcement for
various structural concrete application due to their
non corrosion in nature
 GFRP use as a Structural reinforcement may offer life
cycle cost benefits for certain structure as maintained
to repair corroded reinforcement is not necessary
 Design and analyse both the type of elevated water
tanks seperately column supported tank
INTRODUCTION
 Storage reservoirs and overhead tank are used to store
water and similar liquid.
 The water tanks are very important for public utility
and for industrial structure
 Tanks used to supply water through gravity are
termed as Elevated Water Tank
 Where for large capacities tank generally circular
tank prove economical
 They may be made of masonry ,steel, reinforced
concrete and prestresed concrete
 The GFRP bar comprises glass fiber which are
impregnated in a polymeric matrix composed of
resin ,filler and additives.
 These bars reveal as main advantage as high
corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
 Its initial cost is relatively high ,they show brittle
behaviour and this type of bars is scarce
 GFRP bars have linear stress-strain behaviour under
tension up to failure however they have lower modulus
of elasticity and no ductility like steel bars.

 This is one of the most common types of FRP bars

 These bars have lower stiffness than steel

reinforcement which should be accounted for the
ultimate and serviceablity conditions including the
impact on member deflection and crack width.
 Steel reinforcement corrodes rapidly under aggressive
conditions such as marine environments other
materials such as fiber reinforced polymers(FRP)
have emerged as an alternative to steel reinforcement
when the exposure of the elements require durability
under this conditions.

 GFRP bars have excellent tensile strength and high

mechanical performance.
