The key takeaways are that the document discusses the AWS D1.1 structural welding code and its scope, limitations, surface preparation requirements, quality standards etc. for welding steel structures.

The code contains requirements for fabricating and erecting welded steel structures using carbon steel or low alloy steels with yield strength up to 690 MPa. It is applicable for steel thickness of 3mm or more.

The limitations are that the code is applicable only for carbon steel or low alloy steels with thickness 3mm or more and yield strength up to 690MPa. It is not applicable for pressure vessels or piping.
