    Metro rail is a rapid transport system(MRTS)

    • It is a convenient, fast, efficient, reliable, modern,


    user friendly, comfortable and affordable mode of
    urban transport

    • It is safe and eco-friendly

    • It is electric and requires only 1/5th energy per


    passenger km compared to road based transport
    systems

    • Brings about a more equitable allocation of road


    space by encouraging greater use of public
    transport
    Present traffic condition of Dhaka and reason
    behind it
    • The minimum road requirement for a
    standard city is 25% whereas Dhaka city
    has only 7.5%
    • Large number of buses and trucks
    • EPZ(export processing Zone) area near
    Dhaka City

    which is 23.8% of the total development budget of the
    FY2015-2016
    • Tk22,000 core allocated for the metro rail project
    • Japan international corporation agency(JICA) has
    confirmed they will provide tk16600 core of the
    project’s total cost while Bangladesh Government will
