TEACHING MUSIC

IN ELEMENTARY GRADES

BEED 113 FIRST SEMESTER 2020-2021


INTODUCTION

This teaching module is intended to BEED


113 students Teaching Music in Elementary
Grades. It aims to provide comprehensive
knowledge, skills, musical awareness and
appreciation in learning the fundamentals of
Music. This is also serving as guidance in
teaching new approach in Music.
FUNDAMENTAL OF MUSIC ELEMENTS
Music is a vocal or instrumental sounds combined in
such a way to produced beauty of form, harmony and
expression of emotion It can be analyzed by considering a
variety of elements or parts individually or together
.Musical Sound is any tone with characteristics such as
controlled pitch and timbre. The sound vibrations produced
by instruments or voice by performers. In musical writings
and interpretation of musical sound, tone represents
different notes with specific value. A pause or rests also has
significant part in performing musical score.

RHYTHMIC PATTERNS

The meter of a song is indicated by its time


signature. It consists of two numbers stacked one
on top of the other. The top number represents the
number of beats per measure while the bottom
number represents the note value each beat.

It is timely arranged linear sequence of


pitched sounds that composed of musical tones
vary in pitch which can be low, moderate and
high tone.

rests and other musical writings /manuscript
place .Specifically named in letters E,G,B,D, F
for 5 lines and F,A,C,E for 4 spaces.
ACTIVITY IN TREBLE CLEF LETTER NAMES
SOFA SYLLABLE

It is one of the names for notes of a musical


scale in solmization. This is a system of
attributing a distinct syllable to each note of a
musical scale.

KODALY METHOD
It is a way of developing musical skills and
teaching musical concepts beginning in a very
young children .This method uses Curwen hand
signals, pictures, movable do rhythm and
syllables. Curwen Glover hand signals
emphasizes the importance of learning how to
sing on pitch.

1000.Consist of treble staff joined to a bass staff by means of a

FORM

In music form refers to the over all


structure or plan of a musical
composition or performance. It
describes the layout of a composition
as divided into sections.
STRUCTURE OF MUSICAL FORM
Unitary Form- Also known as Strophic form (AAA), which has the same melody over
different song stanzas that have different lyrics. Moreover, a song is unitary in its form if
it has this “repetitive “nature.

 Binary (AB) – describes the structure of a piece of music which is divided into two
different sections .The two sections are usually labeled A and B.

 Ternary Form (ABA)- It is Sometimes called song form ,is a three-part musical form
consisting of an opening section ,a following section and then repetition of the first
section.
 
 Rondo (ABACABA)-A piece of music where the musical material stated at the beginning
of the piece keeps returning.T his opening music can be called either the theme or the
refrain they are the same thing.

Activity- Identify musical form of the following familiar children songs.

Classifications of instruments are Stringed, Wood
Wind, Brass and Percussion.
