 The world wide web is a way of exchanging


information between computer on the internet
 The world wide web is the network of pages of
image, text sound on the internet which can be
viewed using browser software
WWW…..BACKGROUND

 1989-1990-Tim berners- lee invest the world wide web at


CERNS
 Means for transferring text and graphics simultaneously
 Lots of previous attempts(Gophers, WAIS, Archie, Xanadu)
 Client server data transfer protocol
 Establishing a common language for sharing information on
computers
STRUCTURE

 Client user application to send uri via HTTP to server requesting a


web page
 Web pages constructed using html and using text, graphics sound
plus embedded using files
 Servers respond with request web page
 Clients browser web page by render by servers
 Displaying text
 The entire system runs over a standard networking protocols
COMPONENTS

 Structural components:-
o Clients/browser (to dominant implementation)
o Servers(run on sophisticated hardware)
o Catches (many interest implimentations)
o Internet(the global infrastructure that facilitates data transfer)
 Samentic components:-
o Hyper text transfer protocols (HTTP)
o Hyper text markup language (HTML)
o extensible markup language (XML)
o Uniform resource indentifiers (URI)

 The hypertext concept:-


hypertext is a text which contains links to other texts. The term was
coined by ted nelson around1965
 The hypermedia concept:-
The hypermedia is a term used for hypertext which is not constrained
to be text: it can include graphics , video and sound
 WEB BROWSER:-
A web browser display a web document and unable user to
access web document
 WEB SERVER:-
This programme that waits patiently for the browser to
request the web page
 Uniforms resource locater:-
These are the web address. The resource locater is an
addressing system
