INTRODUCTION
 Green building (also known as green construction or
sustainable building) refers to both structure and using of
processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-
efficient throughout building’s life-cycle. In other words ,
green building design involve balance between homebuilding
and surrounding environment.
THEORY
 The concept of green building has created an immense importance in a

developing country like INDIA.

 The theory implise of minimising the wastage and the cost of construction

 With increase in urbanization the natural resources were used in improper

ways which leads us towards the implementation of green buildings.

 The concept helps in making optimum use of natural resources .

 The green building is an eco-friendly component.

 It is based on the basic rule – “REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE ”.

AGENCIES FOR GREEN BUILDING EVOLUTIONS

 INDIAN GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL , a part of

the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was formed in
2001.
 The vision of council is , “To enable sustainable built
environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the
global leaders in sustainable built environment by 2025”.
 The council offers wide array of services which include
developing new green building rating programmes,
certification services and green building training
programmes.
AGENCIES FOR GREEN BUILDING EVOLUTIONS

 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design):

 Third party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the
design.
 Developed by the U.S. green Building Council in 2000.
 The number of points the project earns determines the level of LEED
Certification the project receives.
 There are 100 base points :
1.) Certified 40–49 points.
2.) Silver 50–59 points.
3.) Gold 60–79 points.
4.) Platinum 80 points and above.

 The techniques associated with the ‘Green Building’
includes :
 Measures to prevent erosion of soil.

 Rainwater harvesting.

 Preparation of landscapes to reduce heat.

 Reduction in usage of potable water.

 Recycling of waste water.

 Use of world class energy efficient practices.

WHY GREEN BUILDINGS

 Increasing urbanization.

 As per USGBC:

 Building consumes 38% of CO2 emission.

 Building consume 70% of electricity load

 Out of 26 billion of water consumed in US each day building use 13%

 About 8% of U.S energy demand goes to treating , heating and pumping.

GREEN CONSTRUCTION FOCUS ON:
 Energy efficiency.
 Eco Friendly Material.
 Water use efficiency.
 Land use.
 Reduction of waste.
1) No lights are needed until its dark.
2) 100% LED/CFL , zero carbon emission.
3) Use of solar energy and windmills.
2) Eco friendly material: Portland cement is responsible for 8% of the CO2
emission of world replace 50-60% Portland cement with FLY ash.
 No copper or PVC should be used anywhere onsite, other than some wiring
and small parts.
 Stone: 100% recycled , salvaged, no newly quarried except for kitchen
counters.
 WATER USE EFFICIENCY:
1) Rain water harvesting
2) Drip irrigation instead of overhead sprinklers.
3) Waste water management.
BENEFITS OF GREEN BUILDING

 Eco-friendly practices include :

 Adequate land use

 Conservation of electricity: 20-30%.

 Renewable and non-conventional energy generation, alternative fuels,

etc.

 Water savings: 30-50%.

 Maintaining good air quality as carbon emission reduce 35%.

 Human safety and comfort.
