CLARIFIER

ABOUT CLARIFIER

 The requirement of clarifier arises for the

separation of suspended solids from liquid;
eg: raw water, sewage water, waste water etc
 The term ‘clarification’ means settling.
PRINCIPLES OF SETTLING

 Forces acting on particles

 Particle settling velocity
 Types of settling
 Surface overflow rate, surface area and depth
of tank
FORCES ACTING ON THE PARTICLES

 Gravity
 Overflow up velocity
 Drag force by fluid
 Buoyancy – pushing by water being displaced

PARTICLES SETTLING VELOCITY
TYPES OF SETTLING

 Discrete – Non-sticky particles, eg: grit

 Flocculent – Sticky particles, eg: primary
solids
 Hindered – Concentrated Flocs, eg: mixed
liquor sludge
 Compressive – Sludge, eg: return actived
sludge
SURFACE OVERFLOW RATE

 SOR = Q0/A,
 Q0 – Clarifier Overflow
 A – Clarifier Area
 Typical operating SOR = 16 to 32 m3/m2day
SURFACE AREA AND DEPTH OF TANK

 Non-sticky particles – surface area is

important.
 Sticky particles – both depth and surface area
are important.
 Activated sludge blanket – surface area is
important, depth may be important.
CLARIFIER MECHANISM

 Clarifier mechanism are driven by high torque

drive unit that have corrosion resistant and
precision rating superior to any drive and
exceed industry’s standards.
PRODUCT SPECIFICATION

 Foundation plates, gearbox, electric motor

 Drives with CI gears, pulleys, chain & belts
etc.
 MS platform
 Lifting arrangement
 MS Scrapper Plate
 Central bearing housing & slip ring assembly
BENEFITS

 Flexible configurations
 Easy installations
 Gear drive capability
 Operating speed flexibility
 Simple in operation
 Efficiently operating mechanism
 Easy mobility
 Less maintenance, low capital & operational cost
