A gateway drug is a habit-forming
drug that can lead to the use of other,
more addictive drug like nicotine and
alcohol.
SMOKING
• Is a practice in which a substance is burned and the resulting
smoke breathed in to be tasted and absorbed into the
bloodstream.
• Most commonly the substance is the dried leaves of tobacco
plant which have been rolled into a small square of rice paper
to create a small, round cylinder called a “cigarette”.
TOBACCO
is a tall, leafy plant, originally grown in
South and Central America, but now
cultivated throughout the world
CIGARETTE
is a narrow cylinder containing burnable
material typically tobacco that is rolled into
thin paper for smoking

SIDE STREAM SMOKE
• The smoke that comes out of the lighted end of a
cigarette or pipe
• Is also called second-hand smoke (SHS) or
environmental tobacco smoke (ETS)
• Is more dangerous than mainstream smoke
THIRD-HAND SMOKE
• Smoke left for a long time on a sofa, beddings, pillow
and other objects
• Is also called residual tobacco smoke (RTS)
• Settles along with dust and can last for months
• Still contains harmful chemicals and carcinogens

GROUP ACTIVITY
The students will be divided into 3
groups. They will draw their own
picture of a smoker’s body. Then
assign one group mate to explain it
in front of the class.
• Do you know someone who smoke?
• How many sticks or packs they consume in a day?
• How much is the cost of each cigarette stick?
• How much will they spend for cigarette in a week, in a
month?
• What important item can you buy with the amount?
