BASICS OF AUTOCAD

INTRODUCTION OF AUTOCAD

 AutoCAD is a computer-aided design software developed by the company

Autodesk.
 It can be used to draw and edit digital 2D and 3D designs more quickly and
easily than you could by hand.
 The files can also be easily saved and stored in the cloud, so they be accessed
anywhere at anytime.
APPLICATIONS OF AUTOCAD

 If a drawing can be created by hand, it can be generated by AutoCAD.

Here ar few applications of AutoCAD-
 Architectural drawing
 House design
 Company logos
 Greeting cards
 Graphs

COMMAND BAR

The command bar is where you will see instructions and options when using
commands.
MOUSE

The computer mouse has an important role in AutoCAD. There are three essential
parts of a mouse, namely, the left button, right button, and a scroll wheel.
LINE COMMAND

 Line is the most basic and common object in AutoCad drawing.

 To draw a line, click the line tool.

 Alternatively, you can type LINE or just L in the command bar,and then press Enter.
CIRCLE

The default option of the CIRCLE command requires you to specify a centre point
and a radius.
The other circle options are available from
the drop-down.
LAYERS

When a drawing become visually complex, you can hide objects that you currently
do not need to see.
LAYER CONTROL

Use the layer command to open the Layer properties Manager. You can either enter LAYER or
LA in the command bar .

 Layer 0 is a default layer that exist in all

 drawing. Instead of using this layer,it’s
 best to creat your own layers with
meaningful names.
LINE TYPE

Linetype is a visual property assigned to geometric objects. Linetypes can be a

pattern of dashes, dots, text, and symbols, or unbroken and continuous.
LINE WEIGTH

The Line weight property provides a way to display different thikness for selected
object.
MODIFYING

Perform editing operation such as erase, move and trim on the object in a drawing.
The most modifying tools are located on the Modify panel of the Home tab
OFFSET

Most models include a lot of parallel lines and curves. Creating them is easy with the
OFFSET command. Click the OFFSET tool or enter O in the Command bar .
Select the object (1),specify the offset distance
and click to indicate on which side of the original
that you want the result (2). Example -
TRIM COMMAND

It is used to remove extra lines or extra parts of an object. In the command bar,you
can enter TR for TRIM.

EXAMPLE -
DIMENSIONS

The dimension will show the vertical or horizontal distance. Create several types of
dimensions and save dimension settings by name.
To start the linear Dimension tool from
the command bar,type”DIMLIN”and
press (Enter).
MIRROR COMMAND

The Mirror command creates a reverse copy of an object in AutoCAD. After you
select some objects, AutoCAD prompts you to select two points that define a line
about which the objects will be mirrored.

Creates copies of objects arranged in a pattern. You can create copies of objects in a
regularly spaced rectangular, polar, or path array. Distributes copies of the selected
object into any combination of rows, columns, and levels.
FILLET COMMAND
