Basic Knowledge DTF and 8colors

Introduction:

Direct to Film or DTF is a process that transfers prints onto fabric or other substrates using a heat-
press mechanism. DTF is an alternative printing process to DTG. Using a specific kind of water-based
ink to print a film transfer that is then dried, a powdered glue is applied to the back and then heat
cured ready for storage or instant use.

the DTF printer technology can allow you to print easily on cotton, polyester, synthetic, or silk
without any trouble. Plus, DTF printers can work on both dark and white fabric.

Powder shaker machine parts and function

Procedure:

There are 3 major process

First, print the 4 basic CMYK colors on the film and then the

before the ink dries, and cure immediately the powder after

- After loading the Pet transfer film to the machine, insert the film to powder shaker machine and follow these
instruction as shown below:

Printing Process:
Print the layout image in flip (mirror) position
with CMYK + White orientation

File image must have spot color with


W1 and W2 channel
Powdering and Curing Process:
- Open the powder shaking machine and follow
these settings:

Top dryer: 100-170 ( 130degrees)


Front guide plate: 60-70 (60degrees)
Powder amount: 3 to 5
Shake powder speed: 1.5 to 2
Cold fan speed: 4 to 9

Switch the take up system in to automatic position

- Note: Powder must be apply immediately


before the ink dries.
Heat Press Application:
- Use heat press to transfer the image
to cloth

- Set the proper temperature and


time (160degree / 15 seconds)
- Place the cloth properly

- Put the film in correct position

- Cool down the film before taking-off

Note: Temperature and time


settings depends on cloth
Other method
Alternative way of printing and curing for proof size or
small amount of quantity:
- Print the layout image in flip (mirror) position
with CMYK + White orientation
- Apply certain amount of powder and remove
the excess powder carefully. Make sure that all
printed image are fully covered by hot melt
powder
- Place the film on powder shaker machine
platform and set the temperature to 130
degrees / 90sec to 120sec
- Lower down the upper drying panel of the
powder sharker machine and wait until the hot
melt powder totally cured

Note: Please observe the proper curing

Alternative way of printing and curing for proof size or
small amount of quantity:
- Print the layout image in flip (mirror) position
with CMYK + White orientation
- Apply certain amount of powder and remove
the excess powder carefully. Make sure that all
printed image are fully covered by hot melt
powder
- Place the film on heat press machine and set
the temperature to 160 degrees / 2min

- Lower down the heat press and make a distance


between 1-2cm, wait for 2mins until the hot
melt powder totally cured.
