REALISTIC
Research is realistic undertaking that must
result to empirical data.
Empirical data are those derived from actual
observations of a phenomenon, interviews of
people who have witnessed an incident,
analysis of first-hand documents sources,
excavation of artifacts, and other actions that
LOGICAL
Research follows valid, definite
principles, frameworks, and procedures.
There are proper, logical, and ethical
approaches to search for answers to a
specific research questions.
Failure to follow these procedures
CYCLICAL
It starts with a problem and ends with
another.
As soon as a research question is
answered, other questions may arise.
These new questions may refine the
answers generated, fine-tune the
ANALYTICAL
After employing strictly and correctly
the predetermined procedure and
gathering empirical data, the latter must
be analyzed to elicit the desired
meaning from the obtained information.

Objectivity is defined as the lack of
bias or prejudice.

The researcher is said to be critical when the

In this way, a high level of confidence can
be established on the execution of research
procedures to gather empirical data, analysis,

for it to be replicable, such that
other researchers can redo or repeat

The purpose of this research is to
understand and explain.
This types of research takes the form of
a theory that explains the phenomenon
under investigation to give its
contribution to knowledge or come up
with a new knowledge.
APPLIED RESEARCH
The purpose of this research is to
help people understand the nature of
human problems so that human
beings can more effectively control
their environment thru application of
theories or knowledge.
EVALUATION RESEARCH
It studies the process and outcomes aimed at
attempted solution.
The purpose of this research is to improve
human intervention within specific
conditions, such as activities, time, and
groups of people.
Another purpose of this research is to judge
ACTION RESEARCH
It aims at solving specific problems
within a program, organization, or
community.
Patton (1990) described this design and
data collection tend to be more
informal, and the people in the situation
IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH
Research is important because….
It describes what is happening around
us.
It explains why things happen in
certain ways.
It predicts what will happen.

Taking pleasure in reading research
journals, in finding out different

proper use of time, effort, and
resources for an intended
purpose.
In other words, efficiency is
LOGICAL
Researcher must follow
procedures identified to the
scientific method in finding out
answers to their queries.
Because of the use of scientific

Being effective means doing the
right things.
Researchers must know how to
foresee errors, so that they can be
addressed immediately, if not
ACTIVE
Researchers must always
respond to the challenges of the
modern world.

When resources are limited,
researchers must be able to find
ways to make use of the given
resources and locally available
materials to compensate for the

Researchers always have novel
ideas.
If a method is not feasible, they
have alternative procedures to attain
the objectives of the research.
They always try to find unique or
HONEST
They are not swayed to what is
expected, but rather to what is true.
Regardless of the results of their
investigations, good researchers
report accurately their findings in
their reports.
COST-EFFECTIVE
Because of limited resources,
successful researchers make it a
point that these resources will not be
wasted.
