INTRODUCTION
The resulting material is designed to have superior strength, durability, and other
properties compared to traditional materials.
OBJECTIVES
Composite materials are typically made up of two or more constituent materials with different physical and
chemical properties. The two main components of composite materials are:
1. Matrix: The matrix is the material that holds the reinforcement together and transfers the load between
the reinforcement fibers. It can be a polymer, ceramic, metal or a combination of these materials.
2. Reinforcement: The reinforcement provides the strength and stiffness to the composite material. It can be
in the form of fibers, particles or flakes and is usually made up of materials such as carbon fiber, glass fiber,
aramid fiber, or natural fibers like bamboo or hemp.
3.Additives such as fillers, colorants, and curing agents are also added to enhance specific properties or
processing characteristics.
ADAVANTAGES
1. High strength-to-weight ratio
2. Design flexibility
3. Corrosion resistance
4. Excellent electrical properties
5. Low thermal expansion
6. Reduced maintenance requirements
DISADVANTAGES
1. High cost
2. Manufacturing complexity
3. Environmental concerns
4. Susceptibility to impact damage
5. Susceptibility to UV damage
6. Flammability
