HISTORY OF NANOMATERIALS:
• In 1959,first proposed by Noble award winner
physicist Richard Feynman.
• In 1974, Norio Taniguchi used the term
“Nanotechnology” for the first time.
• In 1981, atomic cluster was first observed by
scanning tunneling microscopy, which mark
birth of nanotechnology.
• In 1986, first book on Nanotechnology “Engines
of creation” was proposed by K. Eric Drexler.
• In 1991, Carbon nanotubes were discovered by
S. lijima.
NANOMATERIALS:
• Nanomaterials are defined as the
materials with at least one
dimension at the nanoscale.
• Nanoparticles are particles between
1 and 100 nm in size and are made
up of carbon, metal, metal oxides or
organic matter.
• In Greek language word nano
means ‘dwarf ’ and the SI prefix
denotes or 0.000000001.
NANOSCIENCE AND NANOTECHNOLOGY:
• Nanoscience: Gives the knowledge
about arrangement of atoms and
their basic properties at nanoscale.
• Nanotechnology: It is the technology
used in governing the matter at
atomic level for the synthesis of the
novel nanomaterials with different
characteristics.
PREPARATION OF NANOMATERIALS:
