Smart Communication Gateways
• Esyasoft
• Datakorum
Different types of above mentioned gateways are used in this project as
per given scenarios and meter communication protocols like Esyasoft
All in One (AIO), Esyasoft 1:M Mbus only, Esyasoft 1:2 Dlms+Mbus,
Datakorum 1:M Dlms only, Datakorum 1:M Euridis only, Dakaroum 1:2
Dlms+Mbus, Datakorum 1:2 Euridis+Mbus etc
Solution and Technology
Smart Communication Gateways used
Above mentioned networks are used for the two way communication
of Gateways and Head End System
Solution and Technology
• Electric Meter Connectivity
Multiple Electric meters are connected in a daisy chain topology with
the smart communication gateway
Solution and Technology
• Water Meters Connectivity
Multiple Water meters are connected parallel in a communication
connector and a single cable from connector connects with the smart
communication gateway
Solution and Technology
Commissioning process
Utility Sync is a web application which is integrated with the Head End
System (HES). Each premises is allocated with a utility number which
can be open in Utility Sync. Utility Sync is used to update survey, adding
gateways, associating meters with the parent gateway, updating
properties of meters, and sending a message from HES to gateway.

Meter Configuration Softwares
Gateway local tools are used to check the setting of the gateways,
update the firmware of gateways, check the status of connected meters
in the gateway
Solution and Technology
Step 1
Configuring the meters using the meter configuration software
Step 2
Configuring and updating the firmware of the gateway
Solution and Technology
Step 3
Updating the status of each meter (Workable/Non-workable) available
in the premises
Solution and Technology
Step 4
Adding the gateway in the Utility Sync by selecting gateway model,
type, scenario, cable length, room, floor, signal strength etc
Solution and Technology
Step 5
Associating the meters to the parent gateway
Solution and Technology
Step 6
Adding the properties of meter in Utility Sync and creating the meter to
the HES
Solution and Technology
Step 7
After adding the properties of meter, update the gateway to the HES. A
configuration message from the HES will be transferred to the same
gateway using Etisalat Nbiot/4G network. Gateway will receive the
configuration message which include the meters serial numbers and
their properties. Based on the configuration message, gateway will start
communicating with the meters.
Solution and Technology
Inside the gateway, you can check the status of the meters
Solution and Technology
After successful communication between the gateway and meters,
gateway will send the message to the HES and all connected meters will
get active in HES
Solution and Technology
• How this technology works?
The smart meters gather consumption data for utilities like electricity,
or water. This data is stored locally in the meter's memory. First of all,
after configurating smart meters and smart communication gateways, a
message is sent from Head End System to Gateway containing the
meter serial numbers and their configured properties. The message is
send through Etisalat NBIOT/4G or LTE CAT-M Network. After receiving
the message from Head End System, Gateway validates the properties
and start communication with the meters based on the configuration
message received.
Solution and Technology
• How this technology works?
After successful communication of smart meters and smart
communication gateways, smart meters start to send the data stored in
their local memory to the smart communication gateway. Gateway
collects the data and send it back to the Head End System using the
same communication network. This transmission of data occurs in the
real time and at scheduled intervals. All this data is stored, processed,
validated and analyzed in the Meter Data Management System
(MDMS). Utility companies (ADDC & AADC) can use data analytics tools
to gain insights into consumption patterns, demand trends, and system
health.
Challenges
• Blocked routes for connectivity of meters in premises
• Civil Work
• Network coverage issues in rural and remote areas
• Customer Concern
• Customer Engagement
• Delays in commissioning process
