Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are co-educational, residential schools
established and managed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous
organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. These
schools provide a unique opportunity for talented children mainly from rural
areas to receive quality education.

Learning Outcome
The JNV scheme provides children from rural areas with a unique opportunity for a high-quality education. The
curriculum includes a focus on culture, values, environment awareness, adventure activities, and physical
education, resulting in an all-around development of the child. The scheme helps enhance national integration by
facilitating migration to or from Hindi to Non-Hindi speaking states. The reservation policy ensures admission of
meritorious candidates belonging to various categories of castes and tribes.

Admission Process for JNV
Selection Test
Candidates who wish to pursue education in JNVs can apply for admission to
Class VI, IX, XI through JNVST. The application process has been simplified
with online submission available free of cost. The admission portal can be
reached here: https://navodaya.gov.in. Candidates and parents should read the
prospectus and ensure eligibility. Keep the necessary documents such as a
verified certificate, photographs, and valid IDs ready to complete the registration
process.
Aadhaar Enrolment
As per section 3 of the Aadhaar Act, children seeking admission to JNVs must
enroll for Aadhaar. The JNVs have facilities for Aadhaar enrolment, and
candidates can visit with necessary documents to complete the process. Personal
details of the candidate/parents submitted during registration must match with
Aadhaar particulars. Until the Aadhaar number is assigned, candidates may
register themselves provisionally by uploading a residence certificate of the
parent issued by the competent government authority concerned.
Reservation of Seats
In each district, at least 75% of the total seats are filled from rural areas, while
the rest are allocated based on merit from urban and rural areas in the district.
The reservation in favor of children belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled
Tribes, and OBC students is provided in proportion to their population in the
district concerned. One-third of the total seats are reserved for girls. Rural-
open seats are allocated block-wise on the basis of rural population of the
concerned block. There is also a provision for reservation for Divyang children
as per GOI norms.

Centre for JNVST Class-IX
The JNVST Class-IX Examination is conducted at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
of the respective district or outside center on need basis. Prepare yourself to give your
best shot to secure the scholarship.
Reservation for Admissions
• SC/ST/OBC candidates can avail the benefits of the existing vacant seats
reserved for the respective category.

Admission to Class XI Through
Lateral Entry
If you have studied Class X from a Govt./ Govt. recognized school of the District
where the JNV is situated, you can apply for admission to Class XI through lateral

Eligibility for Admission to Class XI

The selection test for admission to Class XI is designed to assess the academic potential, mental ability, and general
awareness of the candidates. Extra time is given to differently-abled students as per the Govt. norms. Prepare yourself
well to crack the test and earn the scholarship.
Documents to be Submitted
Parents of provisionally selected candidates must submit various documents at the time of admission for
verification, which include, but not limited to, a certificate from the competent authority under rural quota, proof of
date of birth, eligibility proofs, a valid residential proof of the parent of the same district where the JNV is
located, a copy of the Aadhaar card of the candidate, a certificate by the headmaster of the school regarding
study details of class III, IV & V (for class 6 ), class 8 (for class 9 ) and class 10 (for Class 11) admission, a
medical fitness certificate, an undertaking for migration, a disability certificate (if applicable), and a
category/community certificate (SC/ST/OBC) if applicable.
Conclusion
