A 5 cm tall object is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a convex lens of focal-
length 20 cm. The distance of the object from the lens is 30 cm. Find the:
(i) position
(ii) nature
(iii) size of the image formed.
2.A 5cm tall object is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a convex lens of focal
length 10 cm. The distance of the object from the lens is 15 cm. Find the nature, position
and size of the image. Also find its magnification.
3.(a) The refractive index of Ruby is 1.71. What is meant by this statement?
(b) The refractive index of some medium are given below:
Crown glass- 1.52
Water- 1.33
Sapphire- 1.77
In which of the medium is the speed of light
(i)maximum
(ii)minimum
(iii) Calculate speed of light in sapphire.

4.A 6 cm object is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a convex lens of focal
length 15 cm. The distance of the object from the lens is 10 cm. Find the position, size and
nature of the image formed, using the lens formula.

glycerin is 2.05 × 10 m/s ?
2. The refractive index of glass is 1.6 and that of diamond is 2.4. Calculate refractive index
of diamond with respect to glass.
3. The refractive index of glass is 1.6 and that of diamond is 2.4. What is the refractive
index of glass w.r.t. diamond ?
4 . A ray of light is traveling from glass to air. The angle of incidence in glass is 35°, and
angle of refraction in air is 60°. What is the refractive index of glass w.r.t. air ?
5. A ray of light is traveling from air to water. What is the angle of incidence in air, if angle of
refraction in water is 41° ? Take refractive index of water = 1.32.
