Introduction of Promoting
Health and Safety
This chapter discusses the promotion of health and well-
being of workers and a safe workplace.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines a healthy workplace as “a

place where everyone works together to achieve an agreed vision for the health

and well-being of workers and the surrounding community. It provides all

members of the workforce with physical, psychological, social and
organizational condition that protect and promote health and safety. It enables 07
managers and workers to increase control over their own health and improve it,
• Achieving a healthy workplace involves collaboration between employees and
managers, focusing on physical, psychological, and social well-being.

• Providing a healthy workplace is advocated by WHO because it's morally right,

makes business sense, and is mandated by law.

• Organizations ensure safety by choosing safe inputs, providing guards on machines,

adopting ergonomic principles, offering proper lighting and ventilation, and enforcing
zero tolerance for workplace bullying and harassment.

• Investing in a healthy workplace is beneficial, resulting in healthier, more productive

workers and reducing healthcare costs.

• Legal requirements in the Philippines mandate provisions such as emergency first-aid

kits, medical and dental services based on workforce size, and government support for
occupational safety and health standards.
