PRODUCTION

CALCULATION
CHAPTER 4
Introduction
• Production calculation is important in order to gain:-

i. the total number of machine needed

ii. balancing the flow of production
iii. to identify problem in a system
iv. to know the total cost for yarn production
v. to calculate machine efficiency

• The calculation depends on the weight per unit length of the product
and delivery speed of front roller.
FORMULAS FOR PRODUCTION CALCULATION IN SPINNING SYSTEM.

1. Blowroom
For conventional machine, the output of the machine is in lap form. The output is
calculated in lb/delivery/day.
Production = Lap weight(gr) x delivery speed (yd/min) x 24hr x 60min x %eff
lap length (yd) x 7000 gr/lb

Delivery speed = lap roller speed (rpm) x π x lap roller diameter

2. Carding, Combing and drawing
For chute feed system, the output of the blowroom is fed to the carding automatically.
As that, the production calculation started at this stage. The output of carding, combing
and drawing is in sliver form. The output is calculated in lb/delivery/day.
Production = Sliver weight(gr) x delivery speed (yd/min) x 24hr x 60min x %eff
sliver length (yd) x 7000 gr/lb

Delivery speed =coiler calendar roller speed (rpm) x π x coiler calendar roller diameter
3. Roving
The output is calculated in lb/spindle/day.
Production= Roving weight(gr) x delivery speed (yd/min) x 24hr x 60min x %eff
roving length (yd) x 7000 gr/lb

Delivery speed = Spindle speed (rpm)

roving twist (tpi) x 36
4. Ring spinning
The output is calculated in lb/spindle/day
Production= Yarn weight(gr) x delivery speed (yd/min) x 24hr x 60min x %eff
yarn length (yd) x 7000 gr/lb

Delivery speed = Spindle speed (rpm)

yarn twist (tpi) x 36
1. Cone winding
The output is calculated in lb/drum/day
Production= Yarn weight(gr) x winding speed (yd/min) x 24hr x 60min x %eff
yarn length (yd) x 7000 gr/lb
Exercise

1. A drawing machine has a calendar roller with diameter of 62mm and revolves at 2000rpm. If it has two
deliveries and producing sliver of 354gr/5yd with efficiency of 85%, calculate the total production of the
machine in lb/machine/day.
2. A ring spinning machine produces 45’s yarn with twist of 22tpi. The spindle speed is 15500rpm with
efficiency of 96.5%. Calculate the production for 1 spindle in lb/spindle/day.
3. A winding machine has 50 drum working for producing a yarn with 20’s. The winding speed is 1350yd/min
with efficiency of 90%. Calculate the total production of the machine in lb/machine/day.
