 The Evidence: Maya Jakic’s case
• Maya’s body was heavily infested with various forms of insect activity.
The maggots on Maya’s body was helped to determine the approximate time of death. By using the weather of
the estimated time of death and the amount of time it takes for maggots to develop on the body, Dr James
Wallman, a forensic entomologist had guessed that the maggots developed during the 13th of April, therefore,
she had to have been killed only a day before.

• A postmortem was used in order to find out who the victim was.
Maya Jakic had worn a golden plate to hide 3 missing teeth, which identically lined up with the postmortem
results of the victim.

The Evidence: Megumi Suzuki’s

• Dna testing was used to figure out if the underwear found was Megumi’s.

Guilty
During April 2004, Mark Errin Rust was charged with the two murders of Maya Jakic and Megumi
Suzuki, aswell as the attacks on an 18 year old woman in Cumberland Park and a woman in Kensington.
To this day he is still fighting his non parole period.

Fact
Mark Errin Rust suffered from a disorder known as Klinefelter syndrome, meaniing he had an extra X
chromosome (carries an extra copy of genes that interfered in development of testicles which leads to
producing less testosterone than usual), this resulted in infertility and a shrivelled and deformed genital.
