UI/UX DESIGN LIFE CYCLE
THE LIFE CYCLE OF UI/UX
DESIGN
• Every UI/UX design encompasses well thought steps that will help
you plan the work and systematize the order of the process to achieve
the goal.
• A good user interface will not only attract the users but also turn
your potential visitors into the buyers of your web or mobile
application.
• When it comes to UX design, it can be called the most significant
part because it improves the experience of the products for users.
• Here we can identify six stages as; understanding your user,
research, analyze, implement and evaluate stage.
STEP 1:DEFINE AND
UNDERSTAND YOUR PRODUCT.
• In the initial phase of the UI/UX design process, it is necessary to determine the needs to
create the product. It answers the question: Why does the product have to exist? Who is
this useful for? What problem will it solve?
• This stage is a crucial one. This is just as important as the foundation of a building. It will
build a foundation approach to align the process with a high end business strategy.
• If you don’t understand your user properly how would you be able to satisfy your
user with your designs?
• First of all, we have to understand users’ pain points which means what is their problem,
and how we are going to solve that problem.
• Interviewing and discussing with the project stakeholders is a great way to start
understanding the product. The conversation will help the designer identify the business’s
goals, allowing them to focus on developing the UI/UX process that helps to hit success.
STEP 2:CONDUCT IN-DEPTH
USER RESEARCH
• User research is vital UI/UX design process step that will help you find specific
issues and problem areas to build a better product.
• This phase will create empathy for users and help them understand why they
expect the product or service. Research can be done in various ways, including
interviews, studies, surveys and more.
• This stage is also as important as the previous one. In the previous stage , we tried to
understand the user but here we try to figure out what are the questions that are going
to solve: for example surveys will provide you with valuable information that
would help improve the user experience.
• We also come up with a testing plan; here we identify the features, functionalities,
and tasks of our system and how we are going to measure the success or failures
of these features and functionalities, and are our functionalities user friendly.
STEP 3:ANALYSIS AND
PLANNING OF THE PROJECT
• In this stage , we analyze all the data that we have gathered in the previous stages.
We can create personas and user journey maps to analyze our data.
• Creating user personas will help you to understand things about users like their
goals, background, age, gender, behavior patterns, pain points, skills, and attitudes.
• User personas answer the main questions like for whom do we design this solution. We
all know that empathy is a core value that designers have to understand our end-
users.
• So by creating personas you will be able to get perspectives similar to users, to
understand different needs and expectations of users, and guess what a real person
might need.
• The designer will also plan how to build the product and the required technologies. Put
simply, this phase involves the roadmap development for the project.
STEP 4: DESIGN THE IDEAL
PRODUCT
• In this stage, before we start to create our designs, we have to create wireframes or sketches .
You should start with the app’s or system overall layout, elements, and navigation. This is also
called low fidelity version of your designs.
• The key aspect here is prioritizing the user experience and interaction with the interface.
• Here we have to create site-maps, user flow diagrams, mockups, icons and also color pallets.
• You have to focus on what are the colors and fonts you are going to use and you have to
experiment with different layouts.
• Adobe XD, Figma, Sketch, InVision studio, and Webflow are some tools that you can use for
prototyping.
• The design step usually involves;
Information Architecture
Usability and accessibility
Navigation and layout.
STEP 5: PROTOTYPE THE
PRODUCT
• Once you have developed a functioning UI, its time to
transform it into a working prototype.
• Prototyping the product will allow you to have a more
realistic experience for testing, thereby delivering accurate
feedback and in-depth insights.
STEP 6: VALIDATION OF THE
DESIGN
• The important step of the UI/UX design process is to
evaluate and validate the product.
• Even though testing is considered at every step, final
assurance of quality and functionality must be made.
• The more information you collect during testing, the better
the revised product.
STEP 7: LAUNCH AND
ITERATION
• Launch and iteration are the final UI/UX design steps. After making the necessary changes in
testing, the products will be ready for launch.
• The UI/UX design process is an ongoing cycle; hence it will continue to improve after the launch.
• Consistency makes the product stand stable and usable for long period.
• Your designs should have consistency (reduce learning). This means your elements are uniform
and look and behave in the same way.
• Use real-world metaphors; this means for example that when you see the garbage bin icon, you
know that when you place something there it would be removed. So when you use this kind of
icons user can understand them even at their first glance.
• Provide informative feedback; when you design for example a password field in a form, you have
to provide information for how strong users’ passwords. Users should know if their password is
weak or strong enough. So you have to give them feedback.
UI/UX DESIGN PROCESS
CHECKLIST
• Every UI/UX lifecycle designer requires a checklist to accomplish the desired outcome. It
will help you stay focused and keep your project aligned with the business goals while
preventing mistakes. Here is your checklist for the UI/UX design process:
• Stay clear on goals and objectives. It is important the organization’s mission and the design
project’s goals clearly. It will help you represent the product to target customers and create an
efficient journey.
• Validate the Prototype’s usability on all devices: Once you have a prototype, you must test its
usability on every device, including tablets, computers, and smart phones. In this way you
can build a successful product from the beginning stage.
• Receive User Feedback: Customer feedback is important to solving problems in the UI/UX
design process. It will allow you to recognize mistakes and make informed, smart solutions.
• Finalise the layout: Make sure to finalise the website, app, or system layout by adding perfect
images, fonts, colors, and icons to engage and encourage customers to stay.
CONCLUSION ON DESIGN
PROCESS
• UI/UX design process is a fantastic way to retain existing customers
and attract more potential ones.
• The UI/UX design process has become more important than ever,
dictating the quality of the user experience and the relationship with the
customer, vendors, and employers.
• Given that, the demand for skilled UI/UX designers has increased.
• This course aims to prepare students master the UI/UX design process
through rigorous and innovative curricula and support, exposing them
to real world applications and building an industry vetted portfolio to
secure their dream careers.
