What is Water Proofing?
• Waterproofing describes making an object waterproof or water-
resistant.
• Building water-proofing is a process which is designed to prevent
water from penetrating a building.
• Usually, extensive waterproofing measures are added to abuilding at
the time of construction, to provide moisture control from the start
• Waterproofing may also be done after a building is built, to address
problems as they emerge or as part of a building retrofit.
Internal Areas that External Areas that
are waterproofed are waterproofed

Bathrooms Roofs
Shower recesses Balconies
Laundries Retaining Walls
Toilets Swimming pools
Why we need to waterproof the building
structure?
• LEAKAGE
• Leakage is the main factor behind water proofing.
• The accidental admission or escape of water vapour
through a hole or crack is known as leakage.
Water proofing compounds
• Neoprene
• Butyl
• EPDM(Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)
• PVC(Polyvinyl chloride)
• Polyurethane
NEOPRENE
• Definition:
• Polychloroprene is primarily composed of
carbon, hydrogen and chlorine polymers which
are cross linked to give neoprene certain
desirable properties such as Thermal inertness,
heat, oil water and solvent resistance.
