ELECTRONICS

OVERVIEW OF ELECTRONICS
AND ITS APPLICATIONS
 Basic Electronics are the fundamental
building blocks of an industry.
 It ranges from nano-sized computer
chips to very large transformers and
electrical outputs.
 Electronics come in different types of
shapes and sizes.
 It deals with the development and
application of many devices and
systems that are in use in day-to-day
applications.

OVERVIEW OF ELECTRONICS
AND ITS APPLICATIONS
Electronics is the branch
of physics, engineering and technology dealing with electrical
circuits that involve active electrical components such as
vacuum tubes, diodes, transistors and integrated circuits, and
associated passive interconnection technologies
OVERVIEW OF ELECTRONICS
AND ITS APPLICATIONS
Electronics is distinct from Electrical and Electro-
mechanical science and technology, which deals with
the generation, distribution, switching, storage and
conversion of electrical energy to and from other energy
forms using wires, motors, generators, batteries,
switches, relays, transformers, resistors
and other passive components
TYPES OF CIRCUITS
Circuits and components can be divided into two
groups:
ANALOG and DIGITAL

A particular device may consist of circuitry that has

one or the other or a mix of the two types.
TYPES OF CIRCUITS
Analog Circuits
Analog circuits are sometimes called linear circuits although many non-
linear effects are used in analog circuits such as mixers, modulators, etc.
Good examples of analog circuits include vacuum tube and transistor
amplifiers, operational amplifiers and oscillators
Analog circuits use a continuous range of voltage as opposed to
discrete levels as in digital circuits..
TYPES OF CIRCUITS
Digital circuits
Digital circuits are electric circuits based on a number of discrete voltage
levels. Digital circuits are the most common physical representation of
Boolean algebra and are the basis of all digital computers. To most
engineers, the terms "digital circuit", "digital system" and "logic" are
interchangeable in the context of digital circuits.
ELECTRONIC PARTS AND
SYMBOLS
 Basically, electronic symbols
specify components which are
used in a particular electronic
circuit or device. Each electronic
part or component has a standard
symbol by which it is identified in
a schematic diagram. In this
lesson, you will encounter some of
the basic parts or components and
become familiar with their physical
appearance and standard symbols.
THEORIES/PRINCIPLES:
 Electronic symbols are the technician's
system of short-hand writing. So,
electronics technician must be able to
identify these parts and symbols easily
and accurately.
 Pictorial drawings make the electronic
circuit easy to understand but it is very
difficult to draw pictorial diagrams of
electronic systems with a complicated
circuitry. Hence, electronic circuit
connections are greatly simplified with
the use of electronic symbols.
COMPONENTS FREQUENTLY
USED IN ELECTRONICS
 The most used components are resistors, capacitors, diodes,
transistors, inductors, fuses, switches and tubes.
COMPONENTS FREQUENTLY
USED IN ELECTRONICS
Many other components are also used in electronics.
These parts or components are available in different
values, shapes and sizes.
You will become familiar with these as you
encounter them in the course of your work.
