definition and equation of a circle
finding the Equation of a Circle
a.) Equation of a Circle Centered at (0,0)
b.) Circles with center Not at the Origin
Conic Sections
- A conic section is the intersection of a plane and
a cone.
Circle
A Circle is consist of all points on the plane
equidistant form a fixed point called the
Center. The distance from the center to any
point on the circles is constant and is called the
Radius of the circle.
Standard Form of the Equation of a Circle
x2 + y 2 = 52 (x - 0)2 + (y - 3)2 = 62
x2 + y2 = 25 x2 + (y - 3)2 = 36
Equation of the Circle Equation of the Circle
Example 3. Write the Example 4. Write the
equation of a circle centered equation of a circle centered
at (2,-5) and with radius 10. at (1,5) and with radius √17.
(x - 1)2 + (y - 5)2 = 17
(x - 2)2 + (y + 5)2 = 100 Equation of the Circle

and the radius of the circle
the circle x2 + y2 = 64. x2 + y2 = 19.
circle with center at the origin circle with center at the origin
Equation: x2 + y2 = r2 Equation: x2 + y2 = r2
x2 + y2 = 64
x2 + y2 = 19
√64 = 8
√19 - not a perfect number
x2 + y 2 = 8
The center of the circle is (0,0) and its radius x2 + y2 = √19
is 8 units The center of the circle is (0,0) and its
C (0,0) and r=8 radius is √19 units
