DEFINITION, AND BP
CHECKLIST
Septic tank is a below ground watertight
box made of concrete, plastic or
fibreglass,
which solid waste and urine are dissolved b
y the action of bacteria.

BP CHECKLI
ST
Manhole
To facilitate inspections of the sewer or
stormwater system as well as
maintenance projects such as cleaning or
removal of obstructions within the sewer
or stormwater line. To assist in ventilation
of the sewage system by allowing gases to
escape.
SEPTIC TANK
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
Household waste travels into the
septic system and is seperated in
3 layers.

Bacterias present inside the tank

Waste from Outlet to treats the wasewater and
house drain degrades the sludge.

Excess treated water is then

discharged out of the septic tank.

VENT PIPES
what is vent pipe? The plumbing vent pipe is a vertical
pipe that attaches to the drain line and runs through the
roof of a home.

FUNCTION : Prevent sewer gases from entering the

home and allow wastewater gas and odor to escape.
Allow oxygen into the water pipes. ; enables bacteria
to break down the sewage aerobically.

No water runs through the plumbing vent pipe.

It is a vertical pipe attached to a drain line and
runs through the roof of your home. The vent
stack is the pipe leading to the main roof vent. It
channels the exhaust gases to the vent and helps
maintain proper atmospheric pressure in the
waste system.
SEPTIC TANK
PLACEMENT
Requirement is vary from one
another Minimum distance from
the house is 10 feet and can be
up to 25 feet.
ON-SITE STORMWATER
Detention tanks collect and store stormwater
runoff during a storm event, then release it at

DETENTION TANK controlled rates to the downstream drainage

system, thereby attenuating peak discharge rates
from the site.

runoff during a storm event, then release it at

from the site.
For small sites, it may be possible to have one
detention system to serve the entire site.
However, for larger sites, it may not be viable to
have one detention system to serve the entire
catchment as it means a large detention volume
would be needed and the system would have to
be placed at the most downstream end of the
internal drainage network.
