Ability tests are assessment

tools with which, mostly
employers, assess and
evaluate their employees or
job candidates on certain
skills and abilities.
Assessment tests can
measure various skills from
problem solving,
communication, manual
dexterity, critical thinking
• Ability tests can reveal a
person's ability to process
information while performing
under time restrictions. They are
really a reliable predictor of job

satisfaction, and when combined
with other psychometrics like
personality tests, they provide a
complete picture of an employee.
TYPES OF ABILITY TEST

1. Cognitive ability testing

• General intelligence test
• Aptitude test
• Multi ability testing
• Psychomotor and physical abilities test

• An IQ test is an assessment that
measures a range of cognitive abilities
and provides a score that is intended to

INTELLIGENCE TEST? serve as a measure of an individual's
intellectual abilities and potential. IQ
tests are among the most commonly
administered psychological tests
French psychologist Alfred Binet was the
first to develop a formal test of
intelligence and a form of his original
test is still in use today as the Stanford-
Binet intelligence test. Later,
psychologist Charles Spearman
developed a concept of general
intelligence, or a general mental ability
to perform a wide variety of cognitive

Psychologist Robert Yerkes developed IQ

tests for the U.S. Army during World War
I to test army recruits. During the 1950s,
David Wechsler developed IQ tests for
use with children and adults. These tests
remain popular today.

PURPOSE OF
TEST

• The objective of knowledge

tests is to get a thought of the
individual's scholarly potential.
The tests revolve around a
bunch of improvements
intended to yield a score
dependent on the test producer's
model of what makes up
knowledge. Insight tests are
frequently given as a piece of a
battery of tests.
TYPES OF
INTELLIGENCE TEST

• There are many types of

intelligence test but here we will
discuss some of them:
• Stanford–Binet Intelligence Scales
• Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale
STANFORD–BINET
INTELLIGENCE
SCALES:

• The Stanford-Binet
intelligence test was
designed to measure
cognitive ability.
• To find out the
intellectual
deficiencies.

SCORE
CLASSIFICATION
This is an IQ test used to assess
adults' and older adolescents'
intelligence and cognitive ability.
It was first published in 1939 and
revised by David Wechsler in
W E C H SLER AD U LT
IN T ELLIG E N C E 1955.
SC ALE
According to Wechsler
intelligence is defined as the
global capacity of a person to act
purposefully.
He believed that intelligence was
composed of distinct elements
that could be isolated, defined,
and then measured.
• The revised WAIS-R form, which
consisted of six oral tests and five
performance tests, was issued in
1981.
• WASI-II is a very short form used to
estimate the intellectual function of
Wechsler.
• The WAIS-III was published in 1997 as
a result of the revision of the WAIS
HISTORY and the WAIS-R.
• The current version of the test, which
was released in 2008, is composed of
10 core subtests and five
supplemental subtests, with the 10
core subtests yielding scaled scores
that sum to derive the Full Scale IQ.
For those 16–90 years old, WAIS-IV measures
are acceptable.

The Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of

Intelligence is used for people under the age of
16.

Uses:

The level of cognostic function in persons with

psychiatric disorder or brain injury may be
assessed with intelligence tests.
The use of neurological trials (including the
WAIS-IV) is done by rehabilitation psychologists
and neuropsychologists to evaluate how the
brain works once it has been damaged.
• Ravens progressive matrices are a group or
individually administered tests that non
verbally assess intelligence in children and
adults through abstract reasoning.
RAVENS • They are made up of a series of diagrams or
PROGRESSIVE designs with a part missing which the person
MATRICES has to complete by choosing the correct part
from six or eight alternatives.
• Patterns are arranged in order of increasing
difficulty
• Spm, apm and cpm are three that together
comprise ravens progressive matrices.
• It has three forms
1. Colored progressive matrices
FORMS
2. Standard progressive matrices
3. Advanced progressive matrices

Constructed by ravens in 1947 as an alternative to spm
COLORED
PROGRESSIVE Age group: 5-11
MATRICES Also designed for elderly people with moderate and
severe learning difficulties
Most items are presented on colored background ,
however few last items are black and white.
Contains set A, Ab, and B for the colored progressive
matrices .all sets contain 12 items=36
Measures reason by analogy.
• Test description
• It comprises of set A,B,C,D and E 5 sets of 12
items
• Total 60 items
• color: Black and white
• Untimed and usually take 15 to 45 min
STANDARD • Age range 15 to 65
PROGRESSIVE • Measure inductive reasoning
MATRICES
• Test description
ADVANCED • Set 1(12) set 2 (36) =total items 48
PROGRESSIVE
• For intellectually gifted persons
MATRICES
• Measure IQ and abstract reasoning
• RPM assess persons ability to use logic in social
situation
MEASURE
• Each version of the RPM is administered by
use of a booklet containing the version specific
matrices
ADMINISTRATION • The clients are given clear instructions on how
to answer the test as well as practice items
given for better understanding.
• There are easy score answer sheets on which
the subject have to write the answer .
• The test is usually untimed but time taken to
answer the test is to be mooted down
Where we can apply this test
APPLICATIONS Can be given to hearing and speech impaired
Non English speakers
As a psycho educational tool to obtain a
comprehensive assessment of general cognitive
function
GRADES

influence of multiplicity of experiences in
daily living .Aptitude is based upon
learning under uncontrolled , general
conditions in life .An aptitude test is used
for predicting future

intelligence scale .
• Today we may take aptitude test to establish
how capable you are in a particular job.
• The work progressed to the USA. In 1916,
