CLASSIFICATION
This is an IQ test used to assess
adults' and older adolescents'
intelligence and cognitive ability.
It was first published in 1939 and
revised by David Wechsler in
W E C H SLER AD U LT
IN T ELLIG E N C E 1955.
SC ALE
According to Wechsler
intelligence is defined as the
global capacity of a person to act
purposefully.
He believed that intelligence was
composed of distinct elements
that could be isolated, defined,
and then measured.
• The revised WAIS-R form, which
consisted of six oral tests and five
performance tests, was issued in
1981.
• WASI-II is a very short form used to
estimate the intellectual function of
Wechsler.
• The WAIS-III was published in 1997 as
a result of the revision of the WAIS
HISTORY and the WAIS-R.
• The current version of the test, which
was released in 2008, is composed of
10 core subtests and five
supplemental subtests, with the 10
core subtests yielding scaled scores
that sum to derive the Full Scale IQ.
For those 16–90 years old, WAIS-IV measures
are acceptable.
