INTRODUCTION
The Federal Government of Nigeria through her cabinet; Industrial Training Fund (ITF)
established Student Industrial Work Experience (SIWES) in the year 1973 basically designed
for Students, to provide them the ample opportunity to gain industrial work experience and
practical knowledge in several areas of the engineering field outside the four walls of the
needed in the labor market. This was due to the feedback gotten from employers of labour and
industrialists about their concerns that graduates do not possess enough practical knowledge
for] employment in industries and other institutions.

COMPANY ORGANOGRAM
OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITIES

During my industrial training at Pine crest farms . Over the course of my internship, I had the opportunity to
participate in a variety of hands-on tasks that allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical
setting.
One of the key activities I was involved in was the water purification process. I gained a deeper
understanding of various purification methods, including filtration, reverse osmosis, and ozone treatment.
These processes are essential in ensuring that the water produced meets the required safety and quality
standards. I also had the chance to monitor the quality control measures, conducting tests to ensure the
water was free of contaminants and safe for consumption.
In addition to the purification activities, I was actively involved in the bottling process. This included
learning how to operate bottling machinery, ensuring bottles were filled, sealed, and labeled correctly. I also
assisted in the packaging and distribution preparation, ensuring the finished products were properly stored
and ready for delivery.
Throughout the training, I worked closely with a team of professionals, collaborating on various projects
and learning from their expertise. I also participated in several safety and hygiene practices, which are
critical in maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring the quality of the water produced.
This experience has given me valuable insights into the operations of the water production industry, and I
am confident that the skills I have developed will serve me well in my future career.
WATER PURIFICATION

The water purification process, as explained by the factory supervisor, begins with sourcing
water from approved natural springs or wells. He mentioned that the water is first subjected to
pre-filtration, where large particles and sediments are removed. After this, he stated, the water
undergoes chemical treatment, which often involves the addition of chlorine or other
disinfectants to kill harmful microorganisms. Next, the reverse osmosis is used to remove
dissolved impurities and contaminants, ensuring the water is safe for consumption. Following
this, he noted, UV treatment is applied to further eliminate any remaining bacteria or viruses.
The process also includes mineralization, where essential minerals like calcium and
magnesium are added back to enhance the taste and quality of the water. These step are
monitored carefully to meet health and safety standards. He also pointed out that regular quality
control checks are conducted to ensure the water remains free from contaminants. Finally, the
purified water is then ready for bottling and packaging.
OZONE WATER TREATMENT

The water treatment supervisor explained that ozone gas (O₃) is introduced into the water
to break down contaminants and kill pathogens like bacteria and viruses. Ozone also
removes undesirable tastes, odors, and colors, leaving no chemical residues. It is produced
on-site with an ozone generator, ensuring a continuous supply. After reacting with
contaminants, ozone decomposes into harmless oxygen, making the process both effective
and environmentally friendly. This method is widely used for water purification and
wastewater treatment..
PRODUCTION & BOTTLING OF WATER

The steps in the production process and packaging are:

1. Sourcing: Water is sourced from an approved natural spring or municipal supply.

2. Purification: The water undergoes filtration, reverse osmosis, and UV treatment to remove impurities and microorganisms.

3. Mineralization: Essential minerals like calcium and magnesium are added to improve taste and nutritional value.

4. Bottle Preparation: Bottles are thoroughly cleaned and sterilized before use.

5. Filling: Water is filled into sterilized bottles in a controlled, hygienic environment.

6. Sealing: Bottles are sealed with caps to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.

7. Labeling: Each bottle is labeled with brand information, ingredients, and expiry dates.

8. Packaging: Bottled water is packaged into cartons for transport to distributors and retailers.

9. Quality Control: Regular quality control checks are performed throughout the process to ensure safety and quality standards.

CONCLUSION
My internship at the water production and bottling facility provided me with invaluable hands-
on experience in the water treatment and packaging industry. I gained a solid understanding of
various water purification processes, including filtration, reverse osmosis, and ozone treatment,
which enhanced my technical skills. Additionally, I developed practical knowledge in quality
control, equipment operation, and maintaining hygiene and safety standards throughout the
production process. Collaborating with industry professionals and participating in different
stages of the bottling process helped me improve my teamwork, communication, and problem-
solving abilities. Overall, this experience has greatly contributed to my professional
development and equipped me with the skills necessary to pursue a successful career in the
water production and bottling sector.
